So, I am evidently an addict. Since joining the forum, I've been reading it a lot in my free time--and, by "reading it," I mean I'm working my way back through the entire forum and clicking on any topic that seems like it'll be interesting.

I am currently on page 241...

... like I said, I have a problem.

In any case... it's been awesome going through and hearing wonderful karaoke stories, and it seems they were more prevalent in the past. So, hey, there's new blood here, and that means new stories--but oldies-but-goodies are welcome as well.

You know how my screen name is "No Shame Karaoke?" My karaoke love came from this motto. Part of the joy of karaoke in the area I started doing it, back in graduate school, was what I would call "respectful rowdiness." Great audience participation, weird antics, strange people, and charismatic hosts. The crowd was a mix of college students, grad students, local people, 21-80s. All formats of music, all sorts of shenanigans.

Including stripping.

The Night I Stripped at the Bar

One of my favorite nights from back then is the week my best friend Adam and I decided to do a strip tease at the bar. See, we were the original "No Shame" guys our little group developed from. Ask us to sing a song? Sure, we'll try it, whether we knew it or not, or whether we thought it would be any good. We figured taking off our shirts and ties would be a good bit of antics to add to our terrible decision of Right Said Fred.

That Wednesday morning, though, we realized something--there could be definite repercussions to taking our shirts off at the bar. However, we had promised people that something like that was going to happen that night, and we are, if nothing else, men of our words. So we decided to go through with it if it came up.

That Wednesday, somewhere around second rotation, we got up and there, on the screen: "I'm Too Sexy." So, we danced. We gyrated. We threw our ties to the crowd. And at the second verse, I think, we grabbed our shirts at the buttons, held firmly, and ripped them off...

... to reveal a second shirt and tie combination.

We kept our word. We ripped our shirts off and, still, stayed within the bounds of propriety.

Mine - In the middle of the night I appeared from the back room fully adorned in Disco! Black platform 4 inch heeled shoes, polyester black pants, purple velvet shirt with ruffles and my wig. I did disco songs rest of the night.

One of my favorite true stories of karaoke is below.

At one of or very long term venues located in a bowling alley bar we had a very special and dear to our heart customer. Her name was Eva and she was a short thin 90 year old Hungarian woman. She always came to the shows with cute and sometimes suggestive jokes printed on little slips of paper to hand out. Whenever we held a birthday party night for one of the regulars she would put on a special show. She would come prepared and excuse herself to layer up and then come out and sing "the entertainer" while she stripped off layer upon layer (complete with boa's , lingerie ect) until she was left wearing only a bikini. No one in the bar was ever offended, I mean how could you be. Everyone's eyes were glued to the stage as they could not believe what they were seeing.

I won $500 in a karaoke contest for accidentally losing my pants.

I had made it into the finals, and I had dressed up in my best clothes and tux shirt. Problem was I couldn't find a belt to wear so I just put on a pair of suspenders.

As i was riding the train, there was a sudden jolt that made me lose my balance and the resulting spill broke the straps on my suspenders.

So I forged on ahead when i got there, and there was no incident for my first song. My sececond song was God Blessed Texas and I was holding the last note so my stomach shrank quite a bit, so boom my pants came down right to my ankles.

All I can say is thank goodness I was wearing underwear!

A couple of weeks ago, I sang a Jim Croce song. "I'll Have To Say I Love You In A Thong" Yeah, I did it. A yellow and white polka dot thong over my regular pants. Not exactly on the level of Magic Mike, but still funny.
