Post subject:  To sit or to stand????

I know this may be a silly topic, but we have covered most other things here. So I pose to you the question:

When you are running your show, do you sit or stand??
At my fill in show, I stand. We raise the height of our table with two milk crates and a plywood board. That is all covered by a black sheet, so you can't see the way it is set up. We don't use a boxed setup. I am setting up the same way. Still need a second table to hold the discs.
I plan on drilling a hole at the back of the table for the wires to go through. There will be a fitted black cloth over the table, that I am going to slit and finish stitch so all the wires will be hidden. It will be nice and neat.

depends on the location and how they have me setup. with prior back surgery i prefer to sit but will stand if i have to and if there is a tall stool i will grab it.

I stand/dance/move around 99% of the time, unless my back is acting up.
Sitting to me looks like the kj isn't into the show.

Mostly standing 80-20. It's a 5 hr show. I sit on a high stool & they can still see me from chest up. I can easily get into the groove of heavy bass dance music - I have to stand up for that especially when they start dancing. Kinda awkward when they're gettin' down on the dancefloor & I'm sitting down. Always standing mode when changing songs & when announcing.

I tend to play a bit of air guitar on the heavier songs. LOL

My silly post I hope I didn't go sideways south from the thread. The same goes while singing. Most of my singers grab a nearby stool. I read that sitting down compresses the gut & chest it's a struggle to sing the high notes thus harder to hit your full range. It’s something to do with the air flow & posture. Stand up unless there’s really a reason why you must sit while singing. :2cents:
Smooth, is that the JVC xl-sv22 video/cdg player? Very good reliable machine. Need to find one to replace my home unit. There’s one at ebay but he wants $200 + 30 ship.

Yes it is. Bought it off a friend of mine, with a monitor speaker for $150. Nice deal.

As for singing, you lose 50% of your power when sitting. You chest is compressed, your diaphragm isn't as mobile, and you are forced into using your head voice.

I sit when I work at the bar. I stand when I work at a private party.

Ditto.. Dance, jig, maybe air drums, white man's over bite if on controls. Chair turned backwards facing stage, head bobbing, white man's over bite if in the crowd. Sometimes all a singer has is the KJ and I'm there for them. Nothing against those that sit, but I rarely am not moving and my homies love that about me. I'd hate to have to get up, sit down, get up sit down, as much as I do. been to many shows where the KJ was sitting in the booth and did an awesome job. It just isn't my style.

I stand because I have a difficult time sitting still and it actually helps my back to keep moving and changing positions. Ours is also a 5 hour marathon. I also have it set up so that I am in front of the table next to the singer and not behind it. That way everyone can see me put in the discs......plus I feel more accessible.

I'm behind the table, but everything is visible. I don't hide the equipment behind a facade.

My partner stands. When I do shows I probably stand about 80% of the time. Unfortunately, my time in the military was unkind to my knees.

I stand for the entire show at my downtown gig and stand about 80% of the time at my 5 night gig. Same goes for the hosts I have running them on my off nights.

I spotted you right away, jd. You're not just standing. You stand out from the crowd. Just kiddin'. Nice hawaiian shirt, though :)

When I do a show, I am up and about for the whole show. I am either standing by my equipment (especially when there is a group of people singing (to prevent them from getting to close to my equipment)), or I am adjusting the sound )mic or music or both) for the current singer, or I am satisfied with the sound adjustment and I am trying to mingle with the Audience for the minute or 2 that I may have available to do so.

I usually only sit when I'm entering singer/song info otherwise I'm either standing or mingling with the crowd when someone is singing.
