Steve Wozniak wrote:
But the engineering wizard behind the progenitor of today's personal computer, the Apple II, was most outspoken on the shift away from hard disks towards uploading data into remote servers, known as cloud computing.

"I really worry about everything going to the cloud," he said. "I think it's going to be horrendous. I think there are going to be a lot of horrible problems in the next five years."

He added: "With the cloud, you don't own anything. You already signed it away" through the legalistic terms of service with a cloud provider that computer users must agree to.

"I want to feel that I own things," Mr Wozniak said. "A lot of people feel, 'Oh, everything is really on my computer,' but I say the more we transfer everything onto the web, onto the cloud, the less we're going to have control over it."

He said the same thing I said. You weren't here at the time so I don't know if you ever saw my comments. I assume you feel the same way. The cloud in general is just the "owners" way of taking and maintaining control over the masses. They own everything, we are the consumers. If they own it and we want it, then we need to pay. And we need to pay on a regular basis, like with a vending machine, they're great investments. Why take 5 seconds to grab a couple of items and bring them with you to work? It's a big hassle and takes too much time, effort and planning. Just go to the vending machine and buy what you want (for two to three times what it would cost you to bring your own from home). Look at cable and cell phone service. Here at my house we pay hundreds of dollars a month for cable and cell phone services. Cha ching, cha ching, cha ching . . . the owners love it.

I got rid of our Comcast about 2 months ago. Best move I ever made. We already had Netflix, so we set it up for instant streaming on our Blu Ray players. We also added "Hulu Plus" for $7 per month. We get the local channels OTA.

One thing you get used to and learn to appreciate - "On Demand" television is way better than scheduled television. And, we're saving over $115 per month (we switched to DSL internet from the phone company).

I rarely watch the dumb box, youtube is my TV. The wife is the TV addict in this house. We just switched from Brighthouse the local cable TV provider and FIOS is far superior to their roadrunner service. It's costing us $129 a month without HBO, Cinemax etc. We are paying for 5 phones with Sprint, one for me one for the wife and 3 for the kids, it's over $250 per month. So over $400 per month for cable, internet and cell phones, that's a chunk of change. I got rid of our land line many years ago when all of us went to cell phones. The wife wanted a land line again so it's included in the $129 a month for Verizon.

Steve Wozniak is correct, but the consequences of cloud computing will not be merely “horrible problems” they will be disastrous outcomes!
Cloud computing is simply the first step toward our unavoidable destiny.
In the words of Napoleon Hill, ”Whatever the mind of man can conceive and believe, it can achieve.”
These early days of cloud computing are the first steps toward a single controlling entity exacting its’ will on the greater population “for our own good”.
Consider these other developments of cloud computing:
Logan’s run
Lawnmower man
Proteus IV demon seed
Freejack
The Borg collective
Skynet – The Terminator
The Matrix

The heros in each of those examples were those who either disconnected from the network or avoided it completely.

“Anything you dream is fiction, and anything you accomplish is science, the whole history of mankind is nothing but science fiction.” – Ray Bradbury

The future is now.

Hmm, coming from apple computer inventor with Steve Jobs, I tend to believe Steve, “The Woz” for his authoritative prediction. Just saying… :)
