I juat left the expo in vegas. Yes, sound choice will have their entire library on the digitrax cloud. Talked with Kurt (SC) and gretchen (with chartbuster) and its a done deal. The pro version will be out in 2 weeks. For now, it will be chartbuster library and sound choice. SBI, mr.entertainer, and others are also singed and will merge in soon. Price is $199 /mth, but if u sign up during special it will be $99 for first year. They are also working on a drive similar to the chartbuster drive (potentially out in 6-8 mths). Too much to list here typing on my DROID, but it seems the ARE working for the KJ.

It wouldn't matter to me if they put every single karaoke song produced to date into DigiTrax. At even an early-bird rate of $99/mo per concurrent running gig, it is still way more money than I spend per month on new music.
Very few established KJ's spend $99/mo on new music (based on the poll I posted and in my area, the conversations I have had with other KJ's).
While $99/mo may be appealing to a brand new KJ, over time, that value could easily be offset with purchases of the legacy material that is still quite plentiful on the market.
Now.....if DigiTrax can work out a deal to become the sole distributor of new tracks for a broad set of manufacturers, then that would mean paying a premium for access to new tracks that are of limited value.
But, IMO, for that to even be a viable scenario, the state of the music industry has to change. There is very little new music being produced that is singable these days. It will change, but for the next few years at lease we will likely continue tyo be bombarded with dance music.
I will continue to invest in discs I find on eBay and Craigslist for my future rigs.

I guess it's time to check with some publishers to see if their previous licensing covers a digital broadcast/distribution model.

Check away Chip....How about providing actual proof of any info you get back? ....some of us might want to follow up (I personally wouldn't believe you if you said the sky was blue without checking). Also check to see if any new licensing has been issued. Digitrax has already stated only songs with proper licensing would be available on "the Cloud" I doubt SC would do anything but follow the same path. It remains to be seen how many Digitrax tracks(or other tracks) will be available on "The Cloud". For some it may be a good option...it certainly would reduce the upfront cost of starting a business....and others will want to own the tracks they use cutting down on long term cost.

That I would strongly recommend to you and Athena to both get off your flubby buns and write some e-mails to some publishers yourself. It's very easy for you to sit there in your little armchair and demand that I give you whatever information you want as though I am some sort of staff. As they say; you can't always get what you want. Tell you what, why don't you ask HarringtonLaw to put up some contact information and citations regarding the transferability of these licenses from publishers into this cloud? And I'll sit here and wait for your answer. in the meantime, I do have a list of people on this site that I do share certain confidential information with. Unfortunately, I don't see your names on the list.

I won't be buying, renting it, or whatever. I've said it before, it's targeting new KJs and pirates. The price should be per song. I don't want to pay any amount like that for a library that I already have many of the songs. Make it per song and I will be sold on the system.

It seems the same ten or so people keep giving the same personal opinions/positions on this stuff...it might be nice to give folks credit for being able to go back into archives and find those opinions.
This is forward movement, that is certain. Helpful for some, not for others. People it is helpful for should use it; those who it is not helpful for, don't use it! We should be able to agree on that, and now focus on the details of what actually does come out.

@Rip, when I spoke with Gretchen she said the hard drive is in the works. And yes, you will be able to purchaae/unlock as needed. They are definitely trying to cover the start up KJ and seasoned professional. I applaud their efforts and they are very aware things will come up and be dealt with as they happen. It's a new effort. Change is always scary for some

I have no intention of spending $99/month (Earlybird Special) to have access to a library, where I already own most of the same tracks. And on top of that, have to pay 1/2 to 2/3 of what I receive for the 1 show (maybe 2) that I might do in the month.... Fuggedaboudit!!!!

Chip:i don't think sound choice would be responsible for the new licensing. The way I understand it is that all the providers are just providing CONTENT.. It will be Digitrax's responsibility to license for internet distibution
Splitting the cost between two companies makes a lot of sense to me.
That being said, I will still not get this service. First of all, I don't host any more and second, even if I did I would be more interested in the drive.
course I will believe it when I see it.

It would be appreciated by this reader. Thanks in advance. I would take it that this goes for HarringtonLaw as well? You don't seem to have a problem with his "uncredited comments that can not be verified by third parties." Or do you simply believe everything that someone with a law license tells you?

for those that may be having issues with the idea of the "cloud pro" giving thieves a cheap way of becoming legit please consider the following.
1. Most thieves do not want to pay anything for the tracks they use.
2. They will have to pay $1188.00 for the first year...if they pay first year in advance and $2388.00 a year thereafter (or if they choose to pay monthly).
3. Only currently licensed songs will be available on "the Cloud Pro"
4. When a thief has to start paying for music most just quit...the 2 that have remained here( in my little part of the world) have raised the prices they charge due to the increased cost of staying in business..... even when they removed certain brands)
While I do see the value in this product to allow a inexpensive way for "Newbies" to enter the karaoke market most established hosts here can tell you that most of "newbies" are not in business 3 years after they start. (in our area 3/4ths are gone within a year and less than 2 percent are working even 1 show a year after 3 years). Those that remain are smart enough to know purchasing music(mostly in bulk and second hand) is a better investment in the long run.
How many of those here think the "Cloud Pro" will really have much impact on the markets they work in ? and why ?
