Just curious how many of you have shows at a place similar to a Hard Rock Cafe? Whereas the venue is built around music entirely. We are inches away from a venue of this sort locally, they have regional and national bands so the concert hall is pro set up. Sound booth, great dance floor even. Great place to host karaoke and make people feel like a star :)

About 10 years ago, there was a place in Manhattan called the Motown Diner. It was a Bar/Restaurant which had a Motown theme. They had a KJ there once a week, and he was set up in a DJ Booth (which was upstairs). There was a real Stage in the middle of the restaurant, where the Singers would be announced, and then perform. The only restriction was that you could ONLY sing Motown songs.

cueball this is what im referring to. Sound like a lot of fun (less the Motown restriction). I just finalized our deal today with the new club. This place is designed for national acts. Great stage, new dance floor & very nice sound booth (where I will be stationed). Since they have their Huge sound system in place already for the bands, all cables snaked over to the booth, I will be just using that system. Saves me time and my back from not loading in my system. And no way could I match what they have in place anyway.

Feels good to have them so interested in Karaoke. They are buying the LCD t.v.'s, mounting them where I want them and running all necessary cables etc to where I need it. Even building a fold down tray for my laptop. 12,000 sq ft of club can't wait for opening night. It's nice not to be an after thought and shoved into the corner :)
Wish me luck!

Simpmech, I congratulate you and wish you the very best of luck!

That being said, I have played that sort of venue. I have an exceptionally strong feeling that you will be approached and asked to host an "American Idol" style contest in the near future. How you will react to that would depend on whether or not you are a proponent of contests, of course. I just wanted you to be prepared for it either way.....

Thanks Joe! the answer to that is....no, im not a huge fan of contest. But, if its the direction they decide to go I will do my best to host it, bring in guest judges etc and do my best to make it "fair and square" and only piss off half of the town in doing so :)

I was thinking the same thing as Joe. And that isn't really a bad thing. Rules are rules regardless of what the rules are. If you need to cater to excellent singers then go for it. I was in a place down in New Orleans a long time ago where you had to audition before they put you on if they didn't know you. I didn't even do karaoke then. But the singers were off the chart awesome, the stage was fantastic and I really enjoyed myself.

If you build it, they will come... As long as you have some awesome singers in the area... LOL
