All of my gigs are full restaurants / night clubs. I just got offered a gig at a very nice establishment that offers only beer , wine, and food. It was a great first night but how are the other beer bars out there doing? Let me know.

The best gig we ever had was like that. It was more af a family atmosphere. Mostly regulars. I liked it because the beer drinkers are much more mellow and freindly. People would bring thier own and go out to the car and drink, but we didn't get many obnoxious drunks.

My weekly show is held at a "beer bar" ....I think
It's a beer and shot place they have a kitchen but it closes at 9:ooPM
It usually gets crowded at 11:00PM ...Many regulars week in and week out
By 1:00AM I'm about ready to call it a night but everyone else is
JUST GETTING STARTED so my 1:00AM show usually ends at 1:45AM

Are you talkin about honkytonks? I dont know what you mean by beer bars but it sounds like places I grew up in ..... And the old singers like Hank Williams played in these places too... Just kiddin but it struck me sort of odd and yea we sing in these places too...

Just so everyone knows what he's talking about, in some states they have a liquor license that limit the alcohol content of the spirits to 14% - the 'max' naturally produced without 'jacking' or distillation. In some counties/borroughs they don't allow distilled liquor to be served at all but do allow 'bars' to serve beer/wine (example: Santa Rosa County, Florida). I'm assuming it's these sorts of places that you're referring to and/or those that have a limited liquor license.

In the handful of 'beer bars' I've been into the crowd was more interested in drinking beer than anything else. For example - think of 'Moe's' on the Simpsons - it's all about beer and talk with an occasional game of pool or darts. Doesn't mean that it wouldn't go over - just that the handful I've been into didn't appear to be good karaoke venues. If it works there for you - go for it!

Ok... I was out of Norfolk for over 6 years I am familiar with the laws on the East coast... But I do like to rib and laugh and have a good time I am an entertainer.... And rarely get serious about anything unless it is a gal with a big heart (cleaned that up...) & when I leave this world I will probably be singing or laughing or dancing or maybe if I'm lucky doin all at the same time.. But out here in colorado they are honkytonks and as long as there is is a jukebox in the corner or a kj doin music I'll be there.... I love you all...

Also to follow up, California sells certain liquor licenses to establishments. You can get just a basic "beer & wine" license, which is rather cheap for the yearly fee (but you can only sell beer & wine, duh) or you can purchase what they call a "general" license which allows the bar to sell basically any alcohol.

I used to work for our state licensing of these establishments some years ago, I'm not in the bar business though.
