I have a gig on Saturday on a bus, yes a bus. The bus had to get ripped apart and set up just so I can do karaoke on it this Saturday Oct 27 for which I spent many hours and travel time to ensure it would work and I am doing a favor for a large party planner (I was trying to build a good relationship to lead to more biz sigh...). All my set-up was working perfectly yestrday and even last night, I turned on my laptop today and it won't even let me login, it appears to be an operating system problem or maybe worse. I need a laptop system with vga possibly a loaner, I am desperate which is why I am posting here. I Just disocvered the disasterous condition 3 hours ago, tried to fix on own, then went to best buy and staples for help but on my time table I am S.O.L. HELP!!!

Can you get in using safe mode, and (update if you can) and run a full anti virus scan?

If you're going to use a computer to run your karaoke BUSINESS; you need to have at least 2 computers and 2 of everything else while you're at it. EVEN A DESKTOP PC COULD SERVE AS A BACK UP SYSTEM IN CASE OF AN EMERGENCY.

I then added that last sentence and didn't feel like deleting it all and re- typing it. I'm not being defensive. I did see the smiley face. I'm just trying to explain that I didn't mean to "yell". I'm just a 2 finger typist and I am always looking at the keyboard when I type and not the screen. I was only trying to offer some advice.

EVEN A DESKTOP PC COULD SERVE AS A BACK UP SYSTEM IN CASE OF AN EMERGENCY. Hmmm how do I say something nicely to people that did not say something nice to me. Stating the obvious (maybe you shuld know all the facts before making negative comments) does not help the situation, it may make you feel good to point out someone elses failings if that is how you like your life but it is not constructive nor positive, same goes out to those that agree. Some folks like to help and others take pleasure in hitting people when they are down, or just anytime the mood hits I see. I try to live a positive life and help others when I can, if I have nothing positive to offer to the conversation I remain silent. Furthermore the gig was on a bus, so I had limited space, had it been held in "normal" venue I would have used players and discs, because I do have all of them. A Desktop would not have worked.

I don't often stick up for Bruce but he did explain that he didn't mean to upper case the second part of his message. If you look past that, his advise was very good. I always have backup everything with me and good thing, last wedding I did, my show laptop decided to go on strike that night. Now it falls back on your comment "if I have nothing positive to offer to the conversation I remain silent."

Sorry to offend you, sir. That certainly was not my intent. I thought I was giving you good constructive criticism. Having a back-up computer is like having a spare tire in your car. It's pretty much a necessity if you plan on using a computer to make money. There are many brand new laptops for sale these days for less than $300 that will easily let you run a karaoke show and $300 is a small price to pay to have the ability to keep going when faced with a computer crash.

I didn't even notice the case in his message, I read the content and intent of both yours and his.

One last thing, if what Bruce posted was the obvious, then why even the op?

The original post sounded like a plea for help... not necessarily for advice.
Sounded (to me) like the poster was hoping to find someone who could help him unlock his computer, or perhaps even find someone in his/her neck of the woods who might offer a loaner.
Why the thread turned south... a little hyper-sensitive and/or defensive ... I wouldn't hazard a guess.
