so I actually had the chance to attend someones show tonight other than mine. It was disappointing to say the least. Now I am aware not everyone wants nor can afford top notch equipment so when I saw his set up, I didn't squak....some old Beringer speakers, a beat up mixing board, a laptop and an external hard drive. But when 95% of all his music was SC, and of course not the Gem series I was pretty sure what that hard drive was. But again, w/e, his problem not mine I suppose. BUT, I signed up (no books or tablets, just had to tell him and hope he had it) them I had to watch as his regulars came up over and over and I kept getting pushed back and back on the list. the last straw was when a guy came into the bar, walked up & told him what he wanted to sing and then sang it....all the while as I sat there. wont be going back

Some shows just suck. There will always be KJs that take bribes to bump people up in the rotation and who will take care of their friends before people that they don't know well.

Or at least that’s how I feel when I look back.

Did I mention this guy was tossing our random sound effects during peoples performances? and setting back there laughing? What a tool

Just before I was leaving, I would have made sure I let management know why I was leaving.

Simpmech - I only do Karaoke 3 or 4 times a week, but have only gone to someone elses show a couple of times this year... The Cat's Meow in New Orleans, which I wanted to attend and see if they had changed anything since I had been there 10 years prior during a bowling tournament and almost missed our flight because of the 3 for 1 happy-hour and a couple of ladies that sung and had a couple of videos shot while they flashed the audience... but that's another story! Some of my friends that are regulars at my shows always seem to think that I need to attend some other shows that they have "discovered" while we are out on the town, away from our little burg, where I don't have a lot of competition yet... but the writing's on the wall, if the "Cloud" becomes known to the few venues that I have gig's at get wind of a New, Cheaper, way to satisfy the Karaoke crowd, It will force me to expand, and probably drive a little further than my 20 mi radius that I now enjoy... but so far, for the most part, we were treated fairly at the other shows, and most were not mobile, for the most part, so not withstanding the huge speaker system, and a turn-key operation, the host was the deciding factor, if I were to critique the three or four I've seen this year, probably 1 were so-so, 1 was similar to my approach, and the other I envy, with the built in audience that Bourbon Street affords!
Just can't get away from my own gigs often enough to find a show that would teach me some new tricks, or a host that has been heads above the rest for our area of the country... But I'll let you know when I do! Keep 'em Singing!!!
Rick

Rick ...Rick, what kind of bowling tournament in New Orleans, scratch, handicap or P.B.A.? I've been there a few times myself over the years...and sometimes a little west of New Orleans. Have some ole friends from there and the surrounding area.

Bowled a few ABC/USBC Nationals (from 82-85 and then in 2006 or 07...Corpus Christi, Tx.?). Wasn't eligible for 17 years (had that nasty Poor Bowlers Association Card)... ...Haven't bowled in two years now and I seem to be a much happier person or at least I think I am... ...Plus, it's how I got started hosting Karaoke Shows, so not all has been a loss, I guess? It's just money, right? Nice to meet ya, now let me go water that dead money tree!!!

Hmmm, me thinks it's hanging on the wall because you misbehave or it’s there temporarily to relieve an uncomfortable pain as the effects of gravity pulls it down more & more (too heavy to carry).

Actually don't use them anymore, and they're light as a feather, being not much bigger than the standard thumb tack that secures them to the bedroom wall.... how did we get here from.....went to a show tonight?
