Well, it looks like this evening's show will include some Claude King (Wolverton Mountain), and some Stompin' Tom Connors (The Hockey Song, Bud the Spud)... both of whom passed away over the past day.

I see Kenny Ball also passed away, but his hits were all instrumental as far as I know.

I often pass out small prizes for those who choose to sing a tribute song to a recent RIP. Mini flashlights this evening.. (They help iluminate the books in the bar's dim light.

I doubt anyone of our crowds would even know who they were.

The last surviving member of the McGuire Sisters passed away this year.

There are two surviving McGuire Sisters (Christine and Phyllis), Dorothy died last September. I believe you are thinking of Patty Andrews of The Andrew Sisters.

Lonnie, every Canadian has heard of "Stompin" Tom and in fact, as I think you know, and may even have one, a full karaoke disc of his songs.

Timberlea, you're right, and that is who I meant and was thinking of. Thank you for catching that one! :)

I knew one was out, but don't have it. Same company that put out the April Wine & Tragically Hip discs I have if i'm not mistaken?

Lonnie, that's correct. They were put out by Karaokemaker. Unfortunately, it and the other Canadian producers shut down due to piracy and increased licencing fees.

You're right, johnreynolds. Bobby Rogers, co-founder of the Miracles with Smokey Robinson died Sunday, Mar 3, 2013.

Wolverton Mountain. Good song. It’s a story about an overprotective father, with a beautiful daughter; her tender lips are sweeter than honey. If you’d like to have a taste of that, or if you’re looking for a wife, don’t climb that Wolverton mountain because her father Clifton Clowers is mighty handy with a gun & a knife. Climb at your own risk.

Tom has probably destroyed a million trees in the form of boards with his heel. This is a film of him at the Horseshoe Tavern in Toronto in 1973.
