No, not the closet.

His venue has been sold, and massive redecorating is under way.

No advance warning is available as to the future of the three nights a week show..

Sorry to hear that.

8) None of us have a lock on how long we hold these gigs, it is an up and down business. It is tough if you are using hosting to support yourself, or worse your family. That is why I never quit my day job while preparing to do hosting once I fully retired. It gives me greater freedom economically to take jobs I want to do and not ones I have to do. With the economy bad new jobs aren't that plentiful, like they once were. Still it is not for sure he is out, the new owners might want to hire him. Has he got in contact with the new owners? Have a blessed day.

Your bud sounds like a long-time one-venue guy. This would make such nervous ( no experience at other venues is just a guess), but it's time to throw some mail packages at new venues, and keep the confidence- he'll find another.

My last long running gig, that I left voluntarily, went through an owner change/remodel phase last year and is still trying to recover from the loss of business it incurred. Sometimes "don't fix what ain't broke" is the best policy. I am currently active in getting the place back on its feet, but the old patrons have split into 2 or 3 different groups and I don't see them ever come back together again.

Sorry to hear about your friend, jd. I know what it feels like to lose a gig - angry, hurt, rejected, even scared. All are normal human emotions. btw, I make it a point to know my regulars’ phone #’s, emails, or facebook addresses so I can contact them if ever I have a change of venue.

That’s how I got hired on the spot from this new gig after my last venue filed for chapter 11. I did one freebie night, called all my regulars, they all came & packed the place. ‘hope your friend gets rehired after renovation, or find another gig soon.
