Post subject:  kARAOKE LIBRARY

Well folks I've progressed with my equipment & enjoyment of the Karaoke experience that I'd like to expand my library. I use Compuhost & am especially interested in being able to get new releases. There may come a time when I host a show from time to time & would like to have & or get tracks in a hurry. The atmosphere surrounding all this seems to be changing quickly enough that a search on the subject pulls posts that can easily be outdated. Would some of you mind sharing the options of getting the karaoke tracks?

Do you have V2? if so then why not get the media pro. 11,000+ tracks (with duplicates) that you can unlock as you go along. Nine times out of ten you're gonna get singers who sing the same songs and never expand. You can literally get away with 80 songs in your library that you unlocked during the show assuming it's a 4 hour show. If you purchase 100 tracks then you won't have to pay the $29 fee for joining.

I may actually have V2. The screen examples Compuhost provides on it's site are the same screens I have. I'll check that tomorrow. How about Select-A Track? Is this a good alternative for getting quality tracks? The cost based on 100 credits is a little less than KJMedia Pro.

Select-a-track uses PRS (UK) licencing that specifically excludes use in the USA and Canada, if you are elsewhere in the world the licences would be legal.

V2 has only been available for 6 months or so. Did you purchase it in the last 6 months?

Compuhost V2 has been out for a short time but to use the new media drive you will have to update to the latest release 2.10. Earlier V2 versions do not have the media drive drop down list on the top menu.

Also, as others have also responded, Select A Track is not set up for the domestic (USA) market. Yes, it is due to licensing of the songs by the publishers for the overseas market only.

So is Select a track out & out lying with the first statement in red (see below) then throwing in a disclaimer to that lie with the second statement in red?
From the Select a track web site:

Can I use the tracks purchased from you professionally or are they home use only?

All the tracks we supply are fully-endorsed by the manufacturer and are sold with their permission to use at home or commercially in any public venue worldwide (assuming that venue has the appropriate public performance license). Selectatrack is an approved licensee of the Mechanical Copyright Protection Society (MCPS) to which a royalty is paid for every track sold to cover song writer and publisher royalties. Both Selectatrack and the MCPS are based in the United Kingdom, anyone ordering from outside the UK does need to check with their local publishing organisations on local terms of use regarding public performance.

RLC,
the key sentence is "anyone ordering from outside the UK does need to check with their local publishing organisations on local terms of use regarding public performance."

If you check the "(MCPS) "(now PRS actually) site they specifically exclude the USA and Canada from the "worldwide" licencing.

It is deceptive in my opinion but by including the disclaimer any lies are of omission . If you dig enough you will find the same disclaimer on most websites selling UK downloads.

link to licence info on PRS site. http://www.prsformusic.com/Pages/default.aspx
more info on the LOML+ licences here http://www.prsformusic.com/users/broadc ... fault.aspx

a quick email using the "contact us" on the site will answer any questions about where the licences are available and where they are prohibited.

MCPS was merged with PRS back in 2009 http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/PRS_for_Music
and the LOML+ licence has been required for karaoke since late 2011....http://www.prsformusic.com/aboutus/poli ... 0Final.pdf

I personally find suspicious ANY manufacture that is quoting licences or agencies that have not existed for years.
