I've been looking for suggestions on how to deal with my competitors using social media to defame my shows.? With complete disregard and little tact they will place there adverts in my facebook, twitter, and etc. social pages. I've never had a group of people so insistent on running me out of a town or anyone.
Any suggestions?

Just an idea - block them from your pages!

Although social media wasn't in existence when I was in the biz, I can say the website we used to have only gave us about 10% of our business. That means 90% of our business came from referrals & word of mouth.
Honestly, social media advertising of a live, interactive service is a waste of your advertising dollar. People will always ask their friends 1st as a resource for these types of services.
Focus on pleasing your clients and the pay off will come back to you.
(And yes, block those jackasses too)

That's a fairly new issue that can be attributed to the internet - in particular, social media. There are a lot of competitors that do underhanded stuff, like posing as a former customer/clients and writing bad reviews. I'd definitely consult an attorney and see if there is anything that can be done.
In addition, you might also speak with his or her bar owners and tell them about your problem (or have your owner/s do it). A lot of times, bar owners belong to some sort of association and they're friendly with each other - and they would not approve of underhanded tactics used by people who represent them.

This might have been already stated but here goes anyway. Are they really affecting your show attendance? Let them (the competitor) do what they do. There is not much you can to other than what Loman said (block them on your page) however you just need to take care of your show and the singers and the venue. Having the most songs or cheapest beer in my opinion is a minimal reason for a singer to go else where. Create a great experience and make your singers want to keep returning to your show. You might wwant to have someone come in a just watch how you operate then later discuss what you might could do to improve (all kjs and djs should do this) your show. Sometime we need to step back and see if we are becoming just another karaoke show. We all get tired and sometime begin to go through the motions. We might not see it but every now and then we need to refresh and or remodel (update) our performances. Look inward first and not worry so much about our competition. As a DJ also, I have recorded my performances from time to time and then watch the later to see what i have don't and figure how to make myself better. Believe me, you will see thing you never imagined you were doing that could affect your performance.

You all have good point.s and rumbolt made a fantastic one. I will sit back and review some of my recordings. These other guys are going as far as tapping into my linkedin account. Not to mention the defaming posts to the business' I work for on yelp.

My suggestion is to drop all social media and go back to relying on great service and keeping your customers happy. Your customers will do the rest for you. Once negative statements are posted they are there forever. My only mass marketing is done with old fashioned emails.

Depends on who your customers are--I have one younger audience venue and facebook will get results for that one. The older ones, on the other hand, don't want to be seen on it supporting bars--employment worries.... But even if he drops his social media these people can still post bad Yelp reviews and spread rumors around the town.
I feel for him in a small town as we fight the same thing. If you are a newcomer than you are up against established cliques that a host probably knew since grammer school and can mobilize against you. You have to be able to get a show in the first place and keep it long enough to be able to show you are better. You have to hang in long enough to establish one on one relationships with the singers that builds a loyalty that can withstand the rumors. Keep a request list and get their songs in. Acknowledge birthdays with a card and a drink token. Bring in glo-bracelets or other party favors sometimes. Really stress how you are in it for them. Unfortunately this takes time and the bad guys sometimes win. I wouldn't engage in the dirt but I get a bit tired of staying silent also. I would really promote what you have to offer and how you intend to do business. If they are that bad, announce you are more than happy to compete by doing a better show and ask why they feel they are unable to do the same. I wouldn't push that--maybe just address it once--but really push how you are in it to give people the best experience and have a good time and try not to deal in the negatives. Eventually they will catch on.

All of the pages he owns, he can remove any post made. Like said Yelp, and any other reviewing site that he doesn't own, nothing he could do about those.
