Post subject:  Hey Gretchen.......................

I was just wondering, has there been any progress on getting sound bites on the site so we can sample the DTE songs, at least. The SBI and SF songs can be sampled at Tricerasoft. But it would be really nice to sample DTE stuff before we buy it.

Thanks.

It seems you are specializing in Country and pop. When are you going to start adding more rock and metal?? I have to say, your rock collection is SERIOUSLY lacking. I know you are dealing with Sunfly and others. Well they have made a ton of rock. Please start purchasing those songs. I would be glad to buy more music from you, but you need to have the music I need. You type in Black Sabbath and you come up with nothing. You type in Ozzy and only get Close My Eyes Forever. You type in Led Zeppelin and get nothing. These are bands that still get sung and need to be in your catalog. Sunfly has all that. I will gladly buy from you guys if you start selling what I NEED. PLEASE!!

Keep in mind that if you can hear the "pan flute" while singing.....you are singing out of tune.

We do have the Sunfly catalog up. However, we are trying to get it licensed. As you know the US has different rules to abide by with licensing. We are doing everything we can right now. We are getting clearance from more and more but it just takes time.

Not very good for those who like to do some free style and not follow an exact pattern which make them sound out of tune when in fact they really aren't.

USA licencing is what is required...from the publishers.

In a very simplified nutshell to the best of my understanding from my research and as explained at the karaoke summit

PRS is a regulated form of licencing legal in the UK ( price for all is set by regulation) .

The whole PRS system is designed as an opt OUT system(a publisher must fill out paperwork to disallow use or it is assumed they are giving permission)

KJ's DJ's in the UK must buy a yearly licence (aprox $500 US dollars per year)(penalties for not getting the licence include severe fines- jail time) and that amount is distributed to the publishers in addition to the amount received up front.

USA licencing does not have a regulated price.

The system here is an OPT IN system...no use is allowed unless a publisher agrees first...no paperwork no allowed use.

We have no yearly licencing fee or set penalties for not getting a licence...and no back end money to go to the publishers

I hope this helps

That doesn't really bother me actually, infact there are some track where the melody line is barely noticable. DK have made some fantastic tracks but many of them are spoilt by being in the wrong key. Apart from the Cloud, Proburn is the only place I know where to get DK tracks. And there are no samples there either.

PRSformusic is opt in, you must register and sign up, specify what you will allow or disallow, pay your admin fee, then wait for approval from the organization. if you are accepted, then they will begin the licensing and forwarding the royalties.

i mean no offense Athena, but i was really wanting to hear from Gretchen on the matter.

Sorry, no. One won't hear the melody line if they are in tune.

As stated before, DK is the ONLY producer to create tracks specifically helpful to the amateur singer.

Just my opinion, but I think they should be included in any library of a KJ that serves the average singer. Yup, there are certainly better versions of some tracks for better singers, but none that do for the average drinker what DK does.

Translation:

The PRS system is for more simplified and allows for equal distribution and pricing, regardless of an artist's ego. More importantly, the UK system allows for unencrypted song downloads (which is what KJs want), as opposed to the American Publisher's rules which gives them the ability to charge so high for downloads, it's not even remotely feasible, hence why American karaoke manufacturers like Sound Choice can't offer downloads, and why the only solution being offered in America is "renting" encrypted music such as the karaoke cloud is offering.

Just another prime example of how American greed is shooting itself in the foot. Just tonight, I witnessed a couple KJ friends of mine talking and one was pissed about not being able to get a certain song from Selectatrack that he wanted, and now can't, but the other KJ had it and offered to give it to him, and he agreed. So, what have we learned? If a KJ can quickly have a song available for download, he will purchase it, but when that option is taken away, he will simply revert back to piracy.

The American Music publishers are morons, and are already suffering the consequences, but because they're not in touch with what's actually going on, this will probably go on for quite some time and only get much worse, before they finally concede and realize the bulk of KJs aren't buying into this old idea of renting and encryption. What's even funnier is that all of this already played out in the regular music world, yet the American publishers (who were right there through all this) didn't seem to learn from it. Remember Napster? Remember how bad piracy was until iTunes came along and offered single song downloads that you could own? Originally they were encrypted, but you could own it for life. Then, Steve Jobs talked the publishers into allowing unencrypted downloads. Why? It was what people wanted. When you buy a song, you should be able to easily copy to any device you own and play it on any player. For some reason, the publishers think that this idea doesn't apply to karaoke. Morons. Once again, they'll have to learn the hard way.

It has to be feasible to offer downloads here in America. DTE does it, and so does All Star. I think SC has pissed off so many people, including publishers, that nobody WANTS to work with them. And the downloads that are offered by DTE and ASK, CAN be put on more than one device. I back up ALL my downloads on different drives.

Uh... not quite. Karaoke Cloud is also selling individual downloads/tracks (not to be confused with a leased license to use).

Yeah, that's DTE or Digitrax Entertainment.

interresting idea there....
you wanna create bootleggers....take away peoples ways to get liquor. wanna get rid of bootleggers, give them other ways to get liquor.
could the pirates have been made the same way?

Exactly. I think what Joe is trying to say is you wont hear the pan flute if you follow the flute track exactly. However one can still be in 100% in tune and yet do something completely different than the flute track.

For the record, I don't like the pan flute "guide" either. Unnecessary IMO.
