| Post subject: | How to properly adjust vocal effects? |
I have an echo machine that has Delay, Repeat, Echo along with Mid, Bass and Treble ajdustment. I know what an Echo effect does. But what are Repeat and Delay and how to adjust them all for good vocal? I tried, but so far, it just doesn't sound right. The 2 page manual that comes with it, looks like was written by someone from an ESL class. Just horrible! Can someone here help? I've tried to look for a manual online, but the mixer model and brand name's nowhere to be found. Non existent! |

Repeat will be how many times you hear the echo. Hello, Hello Hello hello...... Delay is the amount of time between the echo effect. Listen to most fast Elvis songs - his is a very short delay making it sound like a little backslap echo. While Pink Floyd Comfortably Numb, on the Hello - that is a long delay (with repeat). Can you take a picture of the mixer. It almost sounds like one of those generic karaoke mixers. |

I will take a picture of the echo, delay mixer and post it here. The set-up is presently at my house in Temecula and I only go there once a week (I work and staying with a friend in San Diego to save on gas). There is a name brand of the mixer, I think it is AliKasan or KaliKasan or something like that. I meant I could not find that name brand anywhere when googled. I think it's just a name that has nothing to do with the manufacture of that machine. It's like some stores buy rice in bulk and just slap a name on it to make it their brand. I can tell that the machine works ok. It's just difficult to adjust it correctly (so the vocal sounds decent). |

The answer is that you want to give the singer some body and depth without making him/her sound like they are in a tunnel. I like half repeat with the very teeniest of delays. If the "0" position is 6:00 O'clock, the repeat should be set at 6:30, and the delay seven o'clock or slightly higher. That's if you are using a dial. Sliders? Repeat at MAYBE 2 ( or 1-1/2) above 0, and Delay just slightly higher- unless customer requests otherwise, or you have a way below average singer that you are trying to help.... |

So far, I can tell that the speakers can handle high volume with no problem. But the music material isn't very good. So, I definitely need something like a BBE or Aphex to juice it up a little. I am experimenting with the echo machine at the present time. Don't know if I really need something like Line 6 mic., or that's just overkilled. I also have LTD wireless microphones purchased from Amazon and they don't sound too bad. I can't really distinguish the difference between those (LTD) and the Line 6 mic. |

Your Peavey mixer has built in reverb. I would ditch the odd "echo mixer" unit completely...its unnecessary and of suspect quality. |

Agree. Ditch the 'echo' mixer. Not needed and probably the culprit in the bad sound. I think you stated you just got the Behringer 215D - these are powered speakers correct? Run the output of the Peavey mixer directly to the speakers XLR inputs. Do not use the K-318 mixer at all. The Peavey has a great digital effects unit built in that will be heads and shoulders over the echo of that little thing. Don't buy anything else before trying some other stuff yet. Most likely improper settings is what is causing the sound issues. |

IMHO...you should not really "hear" the effect, but you should notice it is gone if you shut it off. in other words....too much effects on a voice is worse than none. |

I did try the Peavey mixer effects. But for some reasons, I couldn't hear much difference. Probably didn't know how to use them. I will read the manual again! Really, either the mixer's effect is defective or I was using it wrongly. But I just don't see how I could screwed it up. Looked very simple to use! |
