Luddite that I am, I still use my office lappy - a 2000 Dell Inspiron 1000 ( with it's HUGE 32 gig HD :D ). Believe it or not, because of the TYPE of usage, half it's memory is still free. That being said, it's still 13 years old, and will almost have to die soon.

To that event I have purchased a 2013 3/4 Terrabyte Lenovo lappy.

My main three business software are: Karafun to test discs, Power Karaoke to make backups, and KJ PRO for the music book listings. To add, KJ Pro, with it's " enter the disc # for all info, one click Excel import, one click, font, one click type ( Artist, Title, By Disc, and Catalogue) is-by far- the best book software ever created- bar none.

The new Lappy is Windows 7 rather than XP based.

The business ( accounting) software works fine, and transference was easy,

Karafun - still free- works fine, after a new download.

Power Karaoke, while almost double the original price of $20 at $39, works fine.

NOW, the biggie. KJ Pro. First, the good news. My original cost for the software was something like $140. The original source, KJ Pro, is now out of business, and the new lappy doesn't recognize my original disc. HOWEVER, a new source:
www.karaoke-software.net
still offers by download. The good news is that the cost is $99, less than the original. The bad is that I am still awaiting a reply to my question whether KJ Pro will be able to function in a Windows 7 environment.

I don't see why not. And worse comes to worse you can change the compatibility so that it thinks it's running on XP.

I have an old friend who's favorite saying is "You don't have a decision to make, until you have a decision to make."

In other words, don't worry about what might happen, because it probably won't. Just try it.

Joe.... If you actually click the link for the KJ Pro purchase, you will be re-directed to AceKaraoke.com and they are showing KJPro as being out-of-stock.

And KJ Pro run on Windows 7 just fine.

You can probably copy all of the files on your original KJPro disc to a USB stick then copy to the new machine and install that way.

I'm in agreement with both you and your friend, Bazza. Thing is, I'd prefer not to spend $99 on something that may not work, and I didn't see a trial offered. Smoth may be right, and I might be able to change it's virtual environment to XP, but I don't know.

I'd REALLY like to stick with KJ Pro, even without an updated database, because if the software works, I can transfer my books as made via flash drive in 5 minutes. If I can't, I'm looking at a VERY long re-entry process. ALso, I've yet to see a software package with more, better, easier to use features, or one that can even match it.

I think I'll have to call this place, or die of old age waiting for an e-mail reply....

If you copy the entire KJpro folder from Windows Program folder and paste it to your new Program folder it will take the KJPro database with it, then run your original cd from KJPro in compatibility mode and it will be set to go. I've done it many times. I have tried repeatedly to get the latest KJPro update, but I cannot.

I'm with you, but for one problem. To repeat: The new lappy can't read the KJ Pro disc.

Do you have an external CD rom to try?

Share the cd drive on the original laptop and map it to the new laptop. Then install from there. I use netbooks in our vet clinic and install software from my main laptop this way all the time.

Another option is to copy the contents of the CD to a thumb or USB drive.

Do you mean put the disc in the old PC THEN load it to the stick, THEN the new machine?

I never thought of that! Then load my books onto a stick and over-write. Thanks Chris! Gonna try it!

Yup, though they tell me downloads are still available from KJ Pro. I will try your stick method first, then go begging..
