What's the quality like on the music and lyrics for the Singing Machine products? I just saw a news story on my Google feed about a new product they'll be releasing that combines a home karaoke set up with a Bluetooth speaker you can use for other media through a tablet (music, podcasts, whatever). At $300, it sounds like a pretty cost-effective option for private home karaoke parties, particularly if the promised 8000 streaming karaoke tracks are of decent quality.

Funny you should ask that.

First, to answer your question, SM tracks- IMHO- are singable, but that's it. Generic sound like Stellar's but inconsistant music tracks- especially in regard to volume.

Now, here's why it's funny you asked:

I JUST read an add for an iSong dock for tablets ( iPads, Kindle Fires, Samsung Galaxy, and ALL Android tablets like my Coby). The dock includes 2 mic inputs, speakers, 360 deg. swivel, "device inserts", and a FREE Karaoke Anywhere app that includes playing software and 30,000 downloadable songs. ( Lyrics will be displayed) NOTE: The print ad ( in The Lighter Side catalogue http://www.lighterside.com Item# CW-11528) clearly displays the Chartbuster Logo.

I should mention that while the print ad claims 30,000 songs, the Karaoke Anywhere Plus screen shot only ads 13,300, so I'm guessing the other free songs might come from another source.

All for $80.

What interests me is "device inputs". Can this be connected to OUTPUT devices ( amp? Mixer? Speakers?)?

In other words, will we be seeing some clown attempt to host a show with these 30,000 FREE songs from a TABLET?

8) Isn't that what the karaoke business is about bringing down the cost of the product, through advances in technology? Way back in the day hosts spent ten of thousands of dollars on karaoke hardware and a library. Now thanks to the computer and legal services like Cloud a host can spend a couple of thousand dollars and have decent equipment, plus access to a decent library. With the crackdown on drinking and driving home parties are becoming more popular. In fact private home parties are more profitable than regular venues are now. That is until home hosts start trying to save a buck by cutting out the professional host. Even at weddings friends that are into photography can take the place of a professional. I can see where looking to cut wedding costs the music might be covered by a friend of the couple being married. That is another pressure that professional host overlook the home grown non pro hosts. We already know the bulk of the manu stolen material is with the home user abuser, and the manus for practical reasons have been forced to write those losses off. I expect even more pressure to be applied to the professional host in the future as the home hobbyists fill in the gap, in order to save a buck.

I can't remember the last Stellar track I sang along with. What's the manufacturer code, and what's the color scheme?

Here, I should admit a personal weakness when it comes to electronic devices--when I see "Bluetooth," I'm almost instantly compelled to buy something, because I basically live through my phone and tablet. I was this close to buying one of those stupid Bluetooth helicopters last Christmas because I COULD CONTROL IT THROUGH MY PHONE OH MY GOD I NEED THIS THING I COULD CHASE THE DOG WITH IT until I realized "dude, you are never going to use a remote control helicopter. Stop."

So when I saw it doubled as a Bluetooth speaker... I might have salivated a bit.

I doubt it. The ad is slightly misleading. There are 50 free songs with the app, and you pay to use the rest. The free songs are all in the public domain, so it's a lot of "America the Beautiful" and that sort of thing.

Actually I was less concerned about the free songs than:

1) Can the device be used as an interface for enough equipment to run a show (albeit badly)?

2) Chartbuster downloads?

Note to Paradigm: Unfortunately, I agree with you. I'll be watching for them....

a bump to get my main question across: Chartbuster downloads?

The CB logo was in the screen shot. Who would be offering CB downloads? While DT may be offering their content, it's my understanding that their downloads bear the Digitrax logo, not CB's.

A little help here? Remember, that I don't use downloads so my knowledge of sources may be limited.

Thanks in advance for your help.

Maybe it was from a torrent site. To some a DL is a DL is a DL.
