Post subject:  1 or 2 speakers home karaoke

I am in the process of trying to build a decent home use karaoke system and am on a budget. Would it be best to get one larger speaker (thump t15a or similar) or a set of 2 smaller ones (maybe 200w or so) that would be about the same price as one th15a? Does the mono vs stereo make a huge difference? This is in a small room for home use...my guess is that the mono setup with a better quality speaker would sound better than a stereo not quality. Any suggestions on a decent pair for about the price of a th15a? Thank you everyone!

I, myself, like sound coming at me from 2 directions, be it mono or stereo. I would lean towards 2 smaller speakers. Keep in in mind smaller speakers produce a smaller sound. Not quieter, but smaller ..... kind of hard to explain that but most of here at KS understand that statement. So if you are wanting a big sound then 1 speaker might work well for you, it just won't feel like it surrounds you.

I understand that for sure. Thank you. Sounds like personal preference. I will chevk around and see what i can find for a pair of speakers in the 250 price range.

A pair of Behringer 12" powered 2-way speakers mounted on tripods. A small powered subwoofer. For mics a Shure 58 handheld and a Shure 55m stage mic for variety. A Yamaha or Behringer 6 channel mixer. And that should be more than adequate for a home system and would provide "club" sound levels and clarity. Can order a karaoke machine from AceKaraoke or Karaoke.com for reasonable prices. All the other equipment can be had for reasonable prices from your local music equipment store...they may also have karaoke machines there too.

1 speaker is fine for most applications in a home use small room, but again try it, if you need another, then you can always add later. 2 smaller speakers you would lose a lot of bass response - if this isn't an issue, then 2 smaller speakers would be fine.
