As a newbie on Karaoke Scene, but not a noob to the industry, in combing through the posts, I'm really astounded at some of the huge regional differences between where most of you seem to be( mostly the west coast from what I can gather) and where I am in the midwest: The issues you face, concerns about the industry, even the brands you use. But I'm going to start of with a basic thing I'm curious about: what is the average length of the show you do, typical days of the week, and what is the average rate(s) in your area to do it? The average in my city is 3 1/2 to 4 1/2 hour show ( usually starting around 9pm) about 80% are done Tuesday- Thursday and the average rate for a show is $150-$175 |

I'm in the Southwest region of Ohio. Although I no longer KJ, I still have friends who run shows in the area (Columbus-Dayton-Cincinnati). As far as bar shows go, it depends on the day. Most shows still run 5-6 hours. Weekdays (Sunday - Thursday) have abhorrent payouts: $50 to $75. Weekend shows (Friday & Saturday) pay a little better: $75 to $150. We found the best money was in corporate events and weddings which, back in the 90's, were 4 hour DJ/KJ shows that started at $250 (additional time was $100 each hour). And once you land one of these, word of mouth will sink or swim you. |

Guess I must be kinda lucky her in N.Central Iowa One show getting $200 (Friday or Saturday nite every other week or so) Other show getting $150, gave him the close friend discount (once a moth on Saturday). Both shows run 4 hours, a bit more if it is a good night. My multirig competitors at the $200 show get the same pay, but drive 50 miles one way, I drive 1 mile. |

I live in the northwestern suburbs of Houston TX. My shows get $150 Monday through Thursday and $200 on Friday & Saturday. I currently have all days booked except Wednesday and Sunday. My private parties start at $400 for the first 4 hours $75 to $100 per hour there after. Just depends on how much I think they can afford. |

I'm in the Tampa Bay, FL area. Average show here is 9:00 p.m. - 1:30 a.m., and average pay is $125. Being a beachy/touristy town, but a really big one, there are literally hundreds of karaoke venues. I guess that's a good thing if you are looking for a gig, but seems to keep rates low, as the market is pretty saturated. I make $125 at my Wednesday gig, $175 at my Saturday gig, and just picked up a temporary gig on Tuesdays downtown for $150. There are plenty of KJs around town that make $75 a night. |

The greater Seattle Metro area is my turf. Karaoke is everywhere and appears to be thriving. My rates start at $150 for multi-night engagements up to $200+ depending on the venue. I do 4-4.5 hours with hourly rates to come in early/stay late. Most of my gigs are on the weekend right now so I am trying to fill in the weekdays to optimize music and gear usage. I also do private parties/engagements and rates for those are much higher starting at $100/hour to higher depending on what the clients actually wants. -Chris |
