This is what I see as a huge problem for the US based karaoke companies - the delta between hot and cold.

http://karaokecloud.wordpress.com/2013/ ... oke-cloud/

Granted, this is more of a flash in the pan karaoke track, but it is still indicative of an issue that the karaoke companies will face more of in the future.

People buy fewer and fewer albums and more and more singles these days. The speed time between hot and cold is getting shorter. I don't have time to pull the info now, but I was reading somewhere that hits spend fewer weeks on the charts than they have in the past. Karaoke companies have a much smaller window to produce and sell hits than they have in the past.

Had Karaoke Cloud been able to release this track October 3rd, they could have raked in a LOT more money than they will now. That 2 months of lag is a lot of lost sales.

It must be very frustrating for the US companies to try to compete under stricter licensing rules than their competitors. On songs like this, even though I know they will probably come and go, I don't mind spending money on them as having them when interest is high adds energy to the show and gets people doing something different. But there IS a window as far as when that is effective.

I was skimming some DJ discussions and even they mention that they don't play a whole song these days. The attention span is such that they have to keep changing mid song as people won't stick to the entire thing. Attention spans are something else these days.

The frequency of 5 minute plus songs adds to the loss of attention.

I don't know what the fox says, but as far as that song is concerned I say "STOP in the name of that which does not suck!"

The song was sung very shortly and then died altogether.

Agree with Chris & LL. Got my Ylvis fox from kv Nov 1. So hot couple months back it was one of the most requested songs at my show. Kind of waning & losing steam fast it was played only once this month.

So, what does the fox say to u.s. strict licensing rules? Appropriately - “Ring-ding-ding-ding-dingeringeding!” LOL

Ylvis? Fox? What's that? Couldn't have been that important.

 Not popular in Canada, at least not yet, Tim. But that will change after Ylvis’ performance debut @ MuchMusic’s Big Jingle in Toronto last Saturday. You mean you didn't attend to see what the fuzz was all about? http://www.thestar.com/entertainment/mu ... debut.html

I wouldn't read the Star if it were the last paper on Earth.

I remember the same thing happened with "Who Let The Dogs Out?" when I was hosting. By the time it hit the market, the song was DOA.

Since I live in Ohio, only drunk Cleveland Browns fans saved that tune from dusty obscurity.

Very true indeed! Maintaining a good beat and a familiar hook keeps most djs competitive these days and sets them apart from each other. Keeping people dancing and entertained is becoming more complicated yet supposedly easier with new technology. It's not just beat-matching anymore. For Veejays its TWICE the work! :)

I agree with most people have said here as well.

The FOX song was popular here for about a month. I bought the multiplex version and played it a few times. That lead to a few people requesting it and the whole crowd getting into it and dancing around..and screaming in the mics. A little out of control sometimes.

Now when i play it nobody blinks an eye. Same with "I'm On A Boat" and "THrift Shop". They've seemingly lost their appeal. :?

But, going on the gist of what I'm reading in this topic, I would have to quote Lonnies favorite phrase... It was just the "Flavor of the Month."

The link was working this morning, cue. Wonder what happened there. Even from their twitter link - https://twitter.com/TheKaraokeCloud/sta ... 4093304832
just a portion is showing & when I click on view on the web it redirects to “oops, page not found”.

Here's a strange twist of fate. I had never heard of this song until earlier today when I clicked on this thread. So I clicked on the link and listened to the song. Blah... nothing spectacular or exceptional in my mind and I was glad I never heard of it before and no one ever requested it at any of my shows. But just to be safe, I went ahead and purchased the song anyway.

Fast forward to tonight's gig at Applebee's. Three little girls came up to me and requested to sing "What Does The Fox Say?" I couldn't believe it. What a coincidence?!?!

Sometimes coming here and reading these threads really pays off.

Nope. The post has been taken down. I won't even speculate as to why. But I will say that it is just another issue I have with the Digitrax/Karaoke Cloud folks - no transparency at all.

We were having a technical issue - we took the blog post down to avoid sending people to a song they couldn't get. We fixed the technical glitch and the blog post has been restored.
