I recently bought a Dec cdg from Pop Hits Monthly..only to find out I really liked some of the songs from the artists Ive never heard of...maybe I did jump the gun a little...maybe I need to start checking out the full release by listening to it rather judging it by the artist list
Loved ...RUBBERBAND and OUTTA STATE OUTTA MIND
I guess all I can do is step up and I was wrong.......sorry PHM

BTW Im currently working on learning RUBBERBAND

I have found Pandora to be an amazing source for discovering new music that I would not come across otherwise. Spotify is another source of music and there are countless Internet radio services out there that let you seed with an artist, song title, or genre and then they start playing.

The downside is that many times the music you discover is not available for karaoke from any vendor. This is one of the reasons why I am very excited about the RYOK product as a means of creating some of these tracks (provided we are allowed to do so under the TOS).

But the real point I am trying to drive home is that there is a LOT of great music out there waiting to be discovered. If you have not been using Pandora, Spotify, or some other Internet Radio source, you should check it out.

Most people who enjoy karaoke lean toward singing very popular songs. People want the audience to relate to the song they're singing. that is why songs like "MY WAY" and "CRAZY" get sung on such a regular basis. The newest songs may get sung by a small group of karaoke enthusiasts(Mostly younger singers) but for the most part, if you take Lonman's usage charts, most songs that get sung are songs that almost everybody is familiar with. Some nights, you see nothing but tracks from the DK set of karaoke tracks being used for the most part. The other tracks that are sung are mostly songs from the 50's 60's and 70's. People are applause junkie's. They sing what will get them their fix.

Nothing wrong at all with singing the songs that people know. But I also encourage people to sing music they might not otherwise sing. It adds something to a show and certainly changes it up.

As a host, I feel it is important to have variety. No one wants to hear the same songs week after week. If I can help by encouraging people to look for and find new music, then I will.

I have even suggested people sing Springsteen now and then. Then I apologize for not having any Springsteen in my library. :)

Funny you should say that. I have plenty of Springsteen- mostly Legends but some Monster Hits too- but very few Springsteen singers.

Those few pretty much sing nothing BUT Springsteen. Talk about a niche market....

Same thing with the Beatles, btw....

Springsteen rarely gets sung at my shows either & I have quite a few tracks, even some hard to find ones. ON occasion someone will put up something.
