How many of you put your singers in the spotlight? Or do you?

What type of lighting do you use? How and where do you have it mounted?

Curious because so many times, singers are in the dark and cannot really be seen well by the audience. I don't think this has been discussed much before but I think it's an important topic.

8 Par 38 cans - 4 in front of singer, 4 in back for accent.
Permanently mounted in ceiling, but used to just use a couple light trees - 4 per bar - in front of singers in each corner.

I have 12 Par 38's 150W for colored (4 red, 4 blue, 2 green and 2 amber) floods that ring the stage and 4 10deg. 90W 38's in front with bastard amber for head spots. With 4 more ( two with no color blue and with two no color pink ) 10 deg 250W spots at about 5' further out for full body cross spotting to make wight . I only use the bright spots on my most "pro" singer but I do ask everyone if they would like the full "STAR" treatment. All the spots are spaced out across the stage so I can use the dimmers to find you. All are on dimmers to set the mood. I like doing lights more then playing KJ

Lights are one of my areas of focus for this year. I have already lit up a couple of venues and I am playing with LED pars, uplighting, lasers and more. I have not settled on any particular brands other than lasers of which I have found that Chauvet seems to have the most reliable and durable.

4 par can's 38 red blue green yellow.
1 led sound activated dance light's alternates red blue green
1 strobe

all ceiling mounted

but my regulars don't like the yellow and green par can's so typically just run the red and blue for the most part for stage lighting.

we use the other lights for dancing & high energy songs.

my regulars are 40 & up crowd so not a lot of use of the motion & strobe lights. they just don't like them. the led dance light is really intense and they complain the blue hurts their eyes. lol

Yep.

I don't shine any lights on my singers because they usually don't like it. I do shine lights "around" my singers. In other words, I do have a nice light show at all my gigs, but I just don't ever shine lights directly on the singers or in their faces.

Now if I was stationary at one place and had the luxury of putting pars way up in the air, I think it could work, but being mobile and setting up in small places, my way works best for me and my singers.

i use a multi-color spotlight about 3 feet to the right of the singer screen so if they want to be seen they can be. Right behind that is a high-back chair for sitting if they like for slower songs, or if they have a disability.

But most opt to be under the alternating dj lights and lasers where they can move around instead of being a fixed object.

Nearly 90% of my singers are under 35 and like to keep things upbeat and danceable.

But to be honest, it IS nice when someone slows it down every 5-10 songs...
