The Talent Quest National Karaoke Singing Contest and Talent Quest Coachella Valley are actively seeking Southern California clubs to host Talent Quest Local Qualifying Contests that send their winners to Talent Quest Coachella Valley for their chance to win their way to the 2015 Talent Quest National Karaoke Contest. Men and women compete separately in three categories, Pop/R&B, Country, and Masters (50+). The top 5 finalists at the National receive cash and prizes. The 2014 Men's Country Champion not only walked away with $2500.00 in cash, but just recently signed a recording contract. Low buy in, easy to run, national and Southern California exposure, and generates revenue. We need to get our best Southern California singers to the Nationals in 2015. Why do you have an issue with Talent Quest promoting a legitimate, national contest?

twansenne, the Talent Quest National Karaoke contest is a 3 tier contest.
Each state has Talent Quest Local Qualifying Contests, usually in local clubs and bars. Winners form Local Qualifying Contests advance to State Regional Contests, like Talent Quest Coachella Valley.
Winners from State Regional Contests advance to The National Contest held in September at the Tropicana Resort in Laughlin. The Nationals bring together some of the best talent from across the nation.
Contestants who start out at the local level may pay $5.00 to enter the contest. Winners have their entry fee into the Regional Contest paid for them, usually $50.00 per winner.
Contestants who win at the Regional Level have their entry into the Nationals, hotel room for the week, and transportation paid for them. Transportation is in the form of air fair if the Regional site is more than 8 hours from Laughlin, or gas money if closer than 8 hours from Laughlin.
At this point in time, Talent Quest Coachella Valley is the only Regional contest in Southern California. As the number of local contests increases, we will be able to add additional Regional Contests to increase the number of people who can participate.
We are in need of clubs to host local contests at this time.

If you go to http://www.talentquest.org, the national site, you can click on Contest Sites and they will bring up a list of states, click on a state and you can see where the venue's are. Some states are not on board yet, we have been trying for 5 years to grow Talent Quest here in California, but some states, such as Florida and Utah have a well established Talent Quest network and send a lot of contestants each year to the Nationals. I know that Southern California has the caliber of singers that can be successful at the Nationals. Last year's Talent Quest Coachella Valley Men's winner made the semi-finals in the Masters category and finished 8th overall, on his first trip. I am not a professional singer, nor have I taken voice lessons or performed in musical theater, etc. I have been to the Nationals 5 times, and made the semi-finals 4 times in the Masters category, once in Pop and once in Country. I made the finals in the Masters category last year and placed 5th. If I can do it, so can people who are better singers and performers than I am. We are trying to get the word out about Talent Quest and set up the network necessary to get our Southern California singers to the Nationals.

There is the most latitude at the local level when it comes to determining winners. Most local contests will use a combination of crowd response and judging. The 15 or so preliminary rounds may be judged by crowd response with a decibel meter. Once a contestant has won a preliminary round, then they no longer need to compete until the semi-final and final rounds. In the semi-final or final rounds, judging is done either by ballot, or by having actual judges do the judging. The judging by ballot is similar to what is done in the Creme de la Creme contest.
Each local contest is encouraged to send 3 women and 3 men, one in each category, to the Regional. Allowances are made for those clubs that may have a more Pop or Country clientele. Clubs can send 3 women and 3 men in Pop if that fits their clientele better, however, clubs that offer all three categories can attract a larger number of contestants.
At the Regional level, there will be a panel of 5 judges. Judges are sought that have experience in entertainment. For example, one of Talent Quest Coachella Valley judges had experience working with talent scouts and booking entertainment for a local casino.
At the National level, there will be 3 judges for the two preliminary rounds, 5 judges for the semi-final round, and 7 judges for the final round. Again, judges are from the entertainment industry.
