Who else got em Used to have this lady who asked to sing with the mic while I played the real artist singing on a CD because the song wasn't in karaoke back then. Maybe it is now. Worst of all she got off work late and would arrive 5 minutes before closing every week and beg to sing. All this just to sing alongside the real artist on CD. Like she can't do that in her car or in the shower. If I declined she begged mgrs, regulars to force me. She didn't buy anything from the bar. Sing her song and dip out. Now I can laugh about it. But back then I'd have a killer night, full house closing with a kickass singer as a finale and she'd walk in with her CD and head straight for the mgr. Would blow my high. I shoulda scratched her cd on purpose. |

I've had several people say that they can only sing along if the vocals were there as well. That's when I would explain to them about my Multiplex tracks, and point out which manufacturer codes to choose from my books. |

I don't allow the actual cd, if it isn't an instrumental or karaoke track (with or without graphics on either) - they don't do it. That is probably my biggest censor of all. I actually used to allow it years ago (maybe 94-95) and a guy would come in and lip sync - wouldn't sing. Actual singers got pissed at him and me for allowing him to take a spot that someone could be singing in. So I made a rule. It's never been an issue since as I've never had anyone bring in the actual song to sing since. I don't have multiplex in my books either. Don't even bother importing them into the computer. |

I have never played original artist discs for people to sing or lip sync over. But..... When I first started out (2010) I was using a Vocopro board that had a vocal elimination setting built in. It wasn't perfect but it worked pretty well. I would sing a few songs that weren't available for karaoke doing this. I had one other singer that brought a few original artist discs in and did the same thing. But it wasn't long before I had issue with that system and moved on to a Yamaha board. I still have the Vocopro mixer. Maybe I should use it to just strip some vocals off some tracks I want and make some of my own tracks. |

I'm one of those who will let someone try something once and if it works, fine and if it doesn't we won't do it again. The very few who asked to sing with the original CD surprised me. One guy actually harmonized and sang against the lead vocal and it really came out well. But it really is a rarity. The exception would be Kid Shows. A lot of the kids are used to singing along with the guide vocal and when I haven't had one available they have given it a try and almost burst into tears part way through and then they give up. I've always hated having to pay for disc with guide vocals on it but now I'm rethinking that as far as the kid songs. |

I don't allow it on my shows either -, get up and sing to one of my songs in my library (or a karaoke track you provide) or don't sing at all. I do allow acapella since usually only the best singers will even attempt it, and it always seems to get a good response from the crowd. Another thing I do not allow is "freestyling". Anyone who walks up to me with a CD and says "Hey man...I got some beats laid down on this CD, could you play it and let me freestyle?" It's always a resounding "NO" |

I don't mind new singers working with one of MY multiplex discs. Those tracks are listed in my books as " W/vocals". We call it Kindergarten Karaoke.. No freestyling. I tell them to save that for Open Mic nights. Not big on having to de - spit my mics more than usual either...... |

I just list the Instrumental track numbers for my Multiplex; however, as I mentioned in my previous post, I will let a person know which brands I carry that do have a vocal track, and I will just play that track for them when they request it. If someone asks to sing the vocals included version of a multiplex disc (which has only happened a small number of times over the years), it's easy for me to add 10 or subtract 10 to the track number listed (depending which Manu disc it is on).
