I had a good search through the forums, etc and cant find much info on the CAVS hosting software. I currently use Siglos and like it a lot, but am wanting to expand into something that will allow for remote songbooks and requests.

I understand that there are third party solutions for this which would allow me to still use siglos, but with CAVS you can also vote on each singer and run a competition, plus they have apps for ios and android.

CAVS is not in your list of softwware options on the sticky, and I cant find any recent development on the CAVS (since 2012?) and notice that their online forum link and online remote support just links to the operating manual, and their public forums aren't public which usually means they dont want anyone commenting on it because they dont have anyone supporting it...

Siglos hasnt had any development for even longer. Is anyone still working on a decent hosting solution with all the bells and whistles? Is compuhost an option - anyone using their remote requests and songlist - does it work ok?

Not really keen to drop $299 on CAVS until I can find out some more about this. Anyone able to offer further info and suggestions?

i use Siglos with Songbookdb and get remote requests with no problems. copies song and artist to clipboard with one click to paste in the global field of Siglos, shows key change, preferred version (if the singer has one) and notes along with request time.

only those with the app can vote for singers so your voting pool shrinks dramatically not going with the live votes. just something to keep in mind.

and those are reasons, along with the fact that i don't think i have seen any host using it, that it is not there. the hosts here posted to the sticky the software that was made for hosting and CAVS is missing a big part, rotation management. it is more of a home player software or for hosts that wont use rotation management (like you have on Siglos) and only use paper slips on a board, or some other manual management system.

don;t know where you heard that, but they have put out updates every few months with new features. they just put 2.0.26 out about 3 months ago, what version do you currently have?

don't blame you. look at updating Siglos before doing anything else is my suggestion.

Well I wouldn't say anything without a rotation system isn't professional (I prefer NOT having one personally), and CAVS (assuming he's talking the CAVS 64 software) does have a rotation system according to their website. However it is also one of the most expensive softwares on the market vs the Siglos, Compuhost, Karma, Hoster, and a couple others. I have yet to hear of 1 kj actually using this software.

I think cost is the biggest downside. All the other options are far more cost effective. In MHO Compuhost is the most fun to use with Karma next, but to each his own.

Thanks heaps for the comments. I'm sorry about the slur on Siglos. Thought I had seen version date releases but must have been looking at something else. This is great news because Siglos has been bulletproof for me. If it could do remote playlists and competitions, it would be even better.

I dont actually use the auto rotation during shows either - prefer to have control over it manually.

I do have the CAVS demo working really well now, and it does have auto rotation for anyone that wants it. I am still having some issues with the remote side of CAVS turning itself off and its difficult to test the voting and competition side of things because the demo only allows for half a song to play so you cant really test what happens correctly. It may even part of the demo that it only works for a limited time before disconnecting.

So I am definitely leaning towards using a remote songlist and request third party system. Are there any that include a voting comp type of thing that would allow for sending votes for singers like the CAVS system?

If you want the most complete system, then that would be CompuHost. Not only is it the best karaoke hosting software out there, but their add ons (Karaoke Song Book Creator, Karaoke Kiosk, KJ Media Pro) all integrate and work beautifully with CompuHost. I wouldn't use anything else. In addition to being the best software, their customer support is second to none, unlike a lot of other software programs. All in all, it's a win/win situation.

I also use and like Compuhost and all the addons! My singers love the remote requests system, although it's a little quirky with KJ Media Pro (KJMP) songs. KJMP's DigiTrax songs often have sync issues, which is very frustrating for the singer to say the least, so I don't think I'll be buying any more credits from KJMP. Lately, I just download the requested locked song from Tricerasoft on the fly, especially if it's a DigiTrak song. Works great and never had one of their offererings out of sync.

What are you referring to that's "out of sync"? I've unlocked many songs during a performance and never had any issues. Ran very smoothly.

I have to agree with Alan here. I've never gotten any out of sync. I got one that is missing some backing vocals but none that are out of sync.

These are the ones I have reported to Compuhost (all DigiTrax):

"Mama's Song" by Carrie Underwood
"Telephone" by Alicia Keys & Beyonce
"Breakeven" by The Script
"Fifteen" by Taylor Swift
"People Like Us" by Kelly Clarkson
"Down" by Jay Sean Ft. Lil' Wayne

Someone else reported "Do I" by Luke Bryan

Sorry to jump back in but just wanted to say thanks for the advice. I purchased compuhost and used it for the first time last night. It worked great - had one weird crash but that might have been something I did as I was reading tracks into the database at the time.

Question: On compuhost is there any way to play cdg on cd without having to rip them and read them into the database?

If you have a cdg readable drive then you should be able to play it through the media player.

You can either access it via the controls to the left of the start button or click the disc icon on the singer's que. The second way puts the song into rotation with the other requests.

I have to jump in here regarding cavs software. That is clearly a professional karaoke software and no where near a home software.
Yet it takes getting used to and is more of a learning curve. I do not say it is better or worse than others, just very different and the one big plus is that cavs spends every week trying to advance the software which is much more than I can say for many other softwares.
So this is not me saying it is the best pick, but rather giving a quick pro/con comment. The biggest thing I don't like and I completely understand because they keep working on the software is the possibility for glitches. Other than that, when you really dig into the software, it does have so much more than a lot of other ones out there. (Although I think the price should go down)

I do believe they have the rotation feature, the songbooks, advertising features, and much more. The most simple and solid software through the years has been Sax n Dotty Show presenter. To each their own, that is for sure.
