Those who follow this forum realize that we will be hitting an extreme music dry spell soon.

How many of you have increased your buying, and how many are hoping for a quick blow-over and buying business as usual?

We all know it won't blow over quickly. I am buying only due to expansion plans. Otherwise, no more than usual.

I'm always looking for deals but buying patterns have remained steady

I think I want to add a second part to the question for those who ARE buying more. Are you concentrating on current tracks only, or going back over your list looking to fill in missing older tracks?

In my case, I'm buying up anything current on new discs if possible, and filling in older tracks with bulk buys of used discs which I run through the JFJ.

Again, I am buying only for expansion, which means I am buying old material in bulk and new material on demand. I am always looking to fill in requests for older releases but given how much I have, I am very well covered.

I tend to buy only what is requested, new or old. Seldom do I actively go through the book and try to get what I'm missing.

same here, i buy what people are asking for. considering most of us have over 10,000 tracks but only 2,000 get used or so, we are not that good at guessing what may be a hit  so not buying any more than usual.

I could easily agree. The thing is, stuff not worth buying now could have enough air play to become familiar and requested a year or two down the road.

I really don't need much older library fill-in, but I've been seeing some amazing deals on used bulk buys. Good enough to gamble....

I am someone who likes to have everything available worth having. As far as old stuff I have most everything, but every now and then see that there is a song I am missing, so I get it. Recently realized I didn't have a version of Hey Hey My My by Neil Young. I found It on a Rebel Sync disc and bought it. It sounds pretty good, and I always say if it is the only version, it is the best version.

As for new Hits I buy them as they come out. I advertise that I have all the current hits, so I have to buy them. The only ones I don't buy as they come out are the songs that would have come out on the Pop Hits Monthly Urban disc, mostly Hip Hop with a bunch of foul language that I wouldn't allow at most venues due to the cursing.

Since October 1st, I have purchased 2744 discs through eBay including 1 very large bulk buy of 1400+ discs. I have picked up several hundred more though Craigslist. Probably a total of just over 3000 discs in the last 45 days.

I only buy if someone requests a song I don't have. And then I'll use KJ Media Pro if it's available through DigiTrax. If not, I'll use Tricerasoft.

Had 6 requests tonight, only 2 of which I could actually buy, the rest were never made - yet.

That is what I'm getting. "The Voice" seems to be having an influence, too.

I am not on a buying spree because the songs they are requesting are either not out yet or were never made. Or they were put out on one disc by one manu one time and not only is it hard to find but I already have all of the other songs on the disc. It hasn't really paid for me to just buy just to up song numbers. They want what they want so I buy mainly on request.

Like I said, some terrific deals on bulk buys out there. Chris, if I remember, you are a multi-rigger. Has to be an especially big push for you, as the above shows....

Yes. Multi-rigging and staying very busy. This week we are officially at 29 shows a week which is our highest ever. We have a line on a venue that wants to run karaoke 7 nights a week which would push us well over where I even want to be, but it is an opportunity that is hard to pass up. Venues that run 7 nights a week are few and far between and have a longevity factor that can't be ignored.

I am noticing a trend towards very new music, much of which, hasn't been "Karaoked" yet. But I look up new material every day, so if I see one of those requests turn up, I buy it.
