Depends on the model but I have owned both. A&H has better on board effects and more durable inmo. |

I'll second Spotlightjr on durability. I own both Yamaha and Allen & Heath. I bought my A&H Zed10FX to replace a Yamaha MG82CX that got banged and lost its power supply connector. It is just a little fragile. I do love my rack-mounted MG166CX, and in a rack-mounted scenario it has done fine. If you are going to be breaking down the mixer nightly, I recommend the A&H. If it is in a rack, the durability questions will be fewer. As far as effects, I like both units and they seem to have everything you need to run a karaoke show. Either can back off to a "plate" for country, have a decent 60s style reverb, and can move to the long reverb necessary for more modern rock. |

I'm as much of a Yamaha guy as anyone, but Allen & Heath is a class step up if you are talking the base models. Better effects, better mic preamps. Very similar in durability. A&H mixers are a bit more $$$ though. They aren't the same price. You generally get what you pay for when you are talking about pro audio from reputable companies. |

I use the A&H 12FX across all rigs except 2 now. Those two have the Yamaha MG124CX. Both are great boards. I like the A&H for the USB and I think the build quality is a little better. But the Yamaha has the onboard single knob compression. |

Yes. Big Difference. As Lonnie notes, there is an even better different when using a Pro external USB audio interface. i stick to the A&H USB though out of convenience. |
