I bought a VocoPro Gig Star for Home parties. We used it for a couple of parties (and loved it) but now we are having to send it back to the factory (it keeps powering down in the middle of a song...looks like a short of some sort.) We bought a lot of CD+G's and since we are not really technically inclined, we like using them as opposed to using a computer. Did we make a mistake buying the VocoPro? We really want to expand our Cd+G library and go even bigger with larger speakers, etc. Should we back up, regroup and try something different? |

Most of us went the PC route to save time and so much back breaking work moving the cds and the rest of the stuff to do our shows. That's not your problem, but reliability is. RSQ use to be a good CDG player, but I haven't heard anything good lately. You would need to get a sound system to go with it. |

In answer to the OP's original question ( no questions regarding disc vs. Pc were asked), while I would not use VocoPro professionally, it's fine - if a bit overpriced - for home use and SMALL parties. You got a lemon. It happens. Whatever you get back should be ok. However, in another thread you mentioned parties of 100 on a one acre lot. For that this unit is WAY out of it's league. If using discs you need a decent player, a solid amp, and a mixer ( or a combo amp/mixer with some power). When outside sound spreads and thins quickly. You will need both serious wattage and serious speakers - a serious investment. |

This may sound like a silly question but when you use a PC how/where do you get your songs? I have a pretty decent library of CDG's but I don't suppose I can load them onto my computer and have them still display the lyrics...can I? I would hate to have to buy a whole new library of songs. I can see how the PC would be beneficial though...and I don't mind spending more for a good quality set-up that I can rely on (especially for outdoor parties). I just have about 200 CDG's and I would hate to have to re-purchase songs I already have. So If I buy a CDG player, what else would I need to buy? Are an amp and speakers all...and what do you recommend. (I have a son who is a musician....I really wish I would have listened when he talked about all of this technical stuff ) |

you can either rip them onto your computer to play with karaoke software (for home parties, Audiograbber rips and is free and to play Karafun is free) r if you go with a pro type software (Siglos is my preferred software) it can play directly from your discs without having to rpi just like using a player. |

You can also use Winamp with a MP3+G plugin to play them and it's free. There are several other free alternatives to playing the Mp3+Gs from a PC. The PC alternative does not require a hugely technical person. And you can always gain\get advice from here if you get stuck. |
