Post subject: | Two Nights |
This week was the first week with two nights of karaoke and it was weird. Friday certainly was anyway. Last night was fairly normal except for the leaving early as my sis wasn't feeling well so I made sure she got home safe. Friday was me and my sis on our own. The Squad wasn't there as it wasn't the usual KJ hosting, it was the off KJ (I'll have to stop referring to him as the off KJ now as he is due to be doing every Saturday from now on but anyway). Tracks: Electric Feel by MGMT Hazy Shade of Winter by Simon & Garfunkel Go Your Own Way by Fleetwood Mac Take On Me by A-Ha So first up, I fluffed the timing on Electric Feel. It is not an uncommon occurrence for me to mistime but it winds me up a bit when I do it on my regular tracks. Hazy Shade was my new one for this week and I did ok first time. I think I will be going back to this one. It was fun. Go Your Own Way is one of my belters. I love singing it and the others seem to enjoy it (at least I don't get rolled eyes when I sing it anyway). I think this was probably the best I have ever performed it and I was surprised when I finished and was stood at the bar waiting for a much needed throat soother, to be approached by a guy who said to me, "Dude, your voice. Sexual. All I'm saying'" I'm always shocked when I receive praise 'cause I'm just a dude in a silly hat but I'll take that. Take On Me went down well and there were a few people dancing, so I got that going' for me, which is nice. My sis and I were also told that we absolutely must come and join the really hot girls and chat to them because they loved us singing, especially Mel's rendition of Monkey Wrench by Foo Fighters. Also, I had to dance with them later. My dancing is subpar to say the least. My rhythm is kinda like my stage presence i.e. non-existent but who am I to pass up gyrating hotties? Saturday was not as odd but I had a surprise planned. I discovered a mash-up online of Avicii and Aloe Blacc's Wake Me Up and Never Gonna Give You up by Rick Astley. It is a thing of beauty. So with a few minor adaptations of my own I had it down and ready to go. Started off the night with Many of Horror by Biffy Clyro and did alright despite my voice being a bit off from last night. Then it was time. I hadn't warned anyone at all of my plan (you never even hint at a good Rickroll) but I did warn the KJ that she would be a bit confused to start with but run with it. A few people laughed when I started and all was going well until the second verse when I choked. Not froze with fear, not forgot the words but actually had a choking fit and lost track of where I was with the song. A little casual mouthing from the KJ helped me get back on track and I finished to clapping and cheering from most people and a look of utter disdain from my sis because she hadn't thought of the idea first (our last venue wouldn't play Rick Astley despite her insistence that she wanted to sing it and it would be funny). Finished the night off with Crossfire by Brandon Flowers and pulled it off quite well despite not having sung it (or even heard it for that matter) for quite a while. What have y'all been up to? |

karaoke's been kinda weird for me lately...i especially can't figure out what's going on with one venue that put me on hiatus for the month of march--- oh crap. i just and i literally mean just friggin realized that due to miscommunication and my dumbassedness...oh geez...listen to this: i didn't work karaoke at one of my venues so far during march because in mid-feburary i was told, indirectly that i was supposed to sit-out for the month of march as the venue "waits on approval"...on something. well, i've been hosting the karaoke there for like 6 yrs, so i trust 'em and don't ask questions if they ask me to do anything. i mean me and the venue are cool, so i take 'em at their word when i was told indirectly to sit out during march i'm not gonna protest...and yes, selfishly was planning to enjoy the free time off. so, these past 2 weeks, while i've been enjoying this free hiatus, i get missed calls and texts from the venue on my night to work of "where are you??" and i'd be baffled and text back "i was told to chill out on hiatus from yall during march". which would be followed up by silence. which i found more baffling. and just tonight i'm realizing in late february, i got a text from the venue saying "karaoke approved tonight". but i got that text on the same night that i worked karaoke there and thought it to be a confirmation/reminder--i thought they were trying to say "this is your last night tonight before the month-long hiatus you're about to start in march, so come in tonight as your last night before hiatus." but now, tonight as i sit here i think that text from the venue was trying to say, "remember when we told you in mid february you're gonna be on a one a month-long hiatus in march, forget that. you're approved to keep on working, no hiatus." whoops! they shoulda wrote more than texting those 3 words. "karaoke approved tonight." because yeah i got another txt tonight of where are you? i texted about the march hiatus they put on me. silence. then a text from the venue, "you're back here for karaoke next week, so be here!" oh man do i feel like an idiot |

Sounds like miscommunication all the way around. While you screwed up, so did they (good thing they like you though). Should of at least touched base with them a couple of times, you're lucky someone didn't sneak in and steal the gig. Make a triumphant return with lesson learned.... |
