As promised, we've put together a list of fourteen songs that are presently on our "under consideration" list for the first new SC release since early 2010. There are a lot of factors that have gone into this list. The main factor is our assessment of whether we will be able to get licensing and publisher approval in time for them to be included in the first batch. But we've also focused on some other factors:

  • Singability
  • Current popularity
  • Stylistic balance (having a mix of different genres)
  • Breadth of market interest

A further very important factor rests in the more than 550 individual requests we've received through our website, totaling more than 1500 songs (many of which were requested by multiple individuals). That list is too long to publish here; we'll consider publishing it on the website, however.

This list is preliminary. This is NOT the list that people who made ADVANCE reservations will be voting on. It is not complete, because we're not just looking to do recent material, and the older material takes longer to review for various reasons. We may not be able to complete licensing for some of these tracks.

Perhaps most important of all, these songs do not all reflect my personal tastes in music, nor will they all necessarily match yours. You might find that you like nothing on this list, and that's OK. What makes it OK most of all is that more selections are coming soon (we expect to release a revised list next Friday), and you still have time to make requests for us to consider.

So, all of that said, here's the initial list, in alphabetical order:

Can't Feel My Face - The Weeknd
Cool for the Summer - Demi Lovato
Do It Again - Pia Mia feat. Chris Brown
Drag Me Down - One Direction
House Party - Sam Hunt
John Cougar, John Deere, John 3:16 - Keith Urban
Peanut Butter Jelly - Galantis
Save It for a Rainy Day - Kenny Chesney
Shine - Years and Years
Take Your Time - Sam Hunt
The Hills - The Weeknd
Uma Thurman - Fall Out Boy
What Do You Mean? - Justin Bieber
Yellow Ledbetter - Pearl Jam

One more thing...I think of the list above, only "Yellow Ledbetter" isn't a recent hit. That's one we never made--in fact only Radio Hitz ever made it, to my knowledge--but it's a great karaoke song that deserves the Sound Choice treatment. It's been on our list for a while.

Thank you for the list, I will have to look into my CDs and downloads a bit and see what we have verses what we want, etc.

And yes, while its preliminary list, it looks like a decent offering with a nice balance. Perfect? No but that's OK... you can't please everyone on one CD. And truthfully, it's got a little something for everyone.

The credits you plan to offer is definitely a good option.

Yes, I'm still worried about order numbers, and quality, but at least now you are out of the gate with something to offer :D I will be looking forward to the updates in the weeks to come.

Don't despair, Lonman. As I said, we are still working on it. It's not final.

This isn't knocking the list but I still do not hear much pop when I go out. It's mostly ladies singing country and guys singing country and classic rock.

I know I don't have a vote, but with Karaoke.net covering the rock stuff, I would stick heavily with the Country stuff if I were SC. Some pop? YES but I would be VERY selective. Even if people do them, they usually only get sung a few times then they start gathering dust.

Same here, after reviewing the potential list, I seem to have most of it. That being said, even with having the Radio Starz CD, I am still interested in the Pearl Jam track

We get a lot of requests for pop and rock, and get very little country and urban requests, so everyone's mileage may vary in whats used. That's why at least with the credits vs a straight CD release would always be more appealing to many of us, because we can get the tracks we like.

And as it has been said over and over, it is a preliminary list, so what they are talking about now may not even show up towards the end. I'm not crazy about it, but at least it is in the right direction.

what IS the list for advance?
all but save it for a rainy day and yellow ledbetter are available for download from at least one manu and most by many. part of what you were offering was to NOT do songs that all the others were offering.

Yellow Ledbetter doesnt get done enough anymore to warrant a replacement. But the Radio Starz version is more than adequate for the majority. Not looking for replacements or stuff already out to be excited about this. Offer stuff never before released anywhere is the way i view it.

When I put up the list in a few minutes, you'll notice that it's heavily weighted toward recent hits. That's because we're still combing through older material that wasn't done before but is in demand, and there will be selections from that material.

I guess you neglected to give us the small print disclaimer on that list... When you said material that was never done, you neglected to add the words "By Sound Choice". It looks like most (if not all) all of these songs have already been produced by other manufacturers. I thought the original premise of the ADVANCE SERIES was to produce song tracks that were never done before (not just by SC).

Not really Cueball... They did have a disclaimer - buried deep in their FAQ's:
Pep FAQ wrote:
Since we haven't produced anything for nearly six years, we want to focus on more recent material, but we will consider producing older music that hasn't been done for karaoke before. We will not be duplicating any previously released SOUND CHOICE® titles.

I guess "words mean things".... It did NOT say; "We will not be duplicating songs that have been previously produced by anyone else."

You are dealing with a company that thrives on "technicalities."

I'll take Yellow Ledbetter. Might just have to sing that myself.
I already have some of the others, and no requests for the others.

What is the point if you re going to make tracks that have already been made by MULTIPLE companies?? You won't sell much if KJs already have the songs. JS. I checked on iCroons!! EVERY song has already been made!! Why are you trying to dupe people into buying crap that is already out there?? That is pretty deceitful!! You haven't produced a SINGLE song since 1999,and you think you will fool people into buying this crap??? What a joke!!!! SC is NOT ONLY NOT America's best, they are also America's joke!!!

I too have several songs from the list. Many have been out for several months now so they're nothing new. For example, I got "Cool For The Summer" back in July. I think that if you want to successfully compete with with KV and some of the other UK sites, you need to be the first one with the new releases. I know that may be easier said than done.

My suggestion would be to concentrate on the very latest releases and I wouldn't release old songs. Not many care about the older stuff or we already have it. And of course, release them in the HD 2.64 format. Or at least give a choice.

remember, this has been one of my beefs for a long time. releasing songs many months after everyone else and then being surprised that no one buys it. just think about it....why would we buy a song form SC that we already have from SBI or KV? the quality is high, the price is acceptable, and the timing is great. Assuming the quality has not changed for SC, the price is the industries highest for equivelent quality of lower priced Manus and the others are months earlier in releasing. it is not like we are talking about SGB or Laughing Gnome putting it out then SC does months later, upgrading then makes sense, the quality was not up to snuff at all compared to SC.
today however, SBI, SF, KV, etc are all putting out quality equal to SC so that need to replace crap with a quality version is no longer there.
if you look around, the collective "WE" as hosts have told others what we want from a manu...

1) quality accurate versions
2) released on time when the song is hot ( a huge factor with the lack of staying power today)
3) released in the format hosts want (mp3+g and mp4)
4) sold in the manner hosts want (instant a la carte download, but a disc option available)
5) sold at a reasonable price
6) samples of the songs before we decide to purchase
7) complete detailed sales receipts with date, song, and price paid
8) keep all purchased songs in sales history online

currently PEP has 1 & 3 covered, 4 looks like it is in the works.
but how does this handle your most important reason for doing this?
"Maybe most importantly of all, we're trying to give our legitimate customers a leg up over pirates who are competing unfairly by stealing their music instead of buying it."
anyone who's singers wanted these songs already bought them, how does re-releasing them give me a leg up on the pirates?

After taking a poll this weekend, the interest was definitely low on the preliminary list.

Let's remember that not only does this list reflect just possible choices, but unless it's released at the end of October if/when they have the numbers... these tracks, if final may still not be in production until they have secured the rights. (I can't blame SC for that though, they may not want to invest in songs then not get the rights.)

Therefore, the final CD/downloads might actually be released sometime in middle to late November. ::sigh:: This was the problem to buying your CDs in the first place for me.

I suggest that SC take a different approach... To produce some stellar hits that 1) are not available by any manufacture and 2) that you concentrate on stuff that's older. Let's face it, the lag time on the new music is too great to generate sales from KJs who can find new tracks quickly and easily, and the percentage of people willing to wait for new tracks from SC is going to be low.

AAAANNDDDDDDDD the waiting game continues.

Not only are these songs already released, but by the time a decision is made to produce them (sometime after the end of October) and release them (God knows how many weeks later), the songs on this list will no longer be relevant. They're barely relevant now. I know this isn't the final cut, but this initial list hardly a 'show of clout' like some were hoping for.

I'd be looking for songs from the past that have never been released before OR cleaning up songs that have been released by others but are poor productions. Leave the new stuff to those that can bang them out in a timely and cost effective manner as we'll likely always be able to purchase them one way or another.

Makes me curious as to what (and to some degree, who) is driving some of the decisions being made at the new company. I get that licensing is probably one thing, but again, this initial list isn't going to set PEP apart from anyone or anything, including the consumer's money.
