The current version of Karma (2016.0.07) tracks all if it's information in an Access database. The way Karma is coded, Singer History is tied to the full path name of a Karaoke track. For tracks that are part of any Singer's history, moving tracks to some other location or renaming karaoke track causes the track in question to be removed from the history.

There are reasons for this, though most of us see it as a "bug".

Fortunately, Karma does allow us to edit the name of karaoke tracks inside of Karma and retain the Singer History. Unfortunately, it is a laborious process if there are more than a handful of files to edit. There still is no convenient way to make file name or location changes without impacting Singer History. Also, this only supports NAME CHANGES. It does not support MOVING a file.

To edit the file name of a track in Karma and retain Singer History -

Open Karma
Search for the track in question
Double Click the track
When the waveform finishes drawing, you will see and Edit button just below the DiscID field.

Click the Edit button and you will be able to change any of the 3 fields - Title/Artist/DiscID - which will also rename the file on disc.

Caution - There is what I consider a bug in this process also.

Karma remembers the last karaoke track played and displays it in the "Now Playing" section of the hosts Vid1 Panel.

If the song you wish to Edit (rename) is in the "Now Playing" section, Karma will not let you edit the track. Instead, we get an error "File unable to be renamed while loaded in player."

The work around is to Play some other track to make Karma release the record lock on the track you wish to edit.

I export all the singer reports to a file. Then I just add the history back to each singer, by loading the songs and pushing play. A bit arduous, but it works.

Can also edit the Access DB directly if you are good with Access. I am not. But my wife is :)

No logical or rational reason for it though, just Bob's pigheadedness.
Any 5 year old relational database designer can tell you that relationships between data tables in a relational database need to be based on "related" fields. This is why they are called relational databases.

There is absolutely ZERO relation between the physical location of a song on a disk and the singer history for that song.

Would you buy an inventory point of sale program for your business that wiped out years of your invoice history of a product being sold simply because you moved the location of the product or no longer carry the product?

That would REALLY go over well with the IRS.

He needs to take a BIG bite of humble pie and admit that he really FUBAR'ed the design and change it.

Not going to hold my breath though.

His reasoning is that you should not be moving song files around, and people who do are idiots. That is what he told a few of us on Facebook, before he kicked us out of his group.

So I am not the only one that can no longer post on his FB page?

Well, if it makes you feel any better, I can't either. But then again, I'm okay with that. I just have a fundamental problem with his terms of use where he can decide what you need and make any changes he wants, whenever he wants. Not to mention his being able to kill the program you've paid for -- for absolutely any reason, or no reason at all.

If he ever gets to the point where he doesn't need the money anymore, I believe he'll run a scorched earth policy and just revoke anyone that connects --- because he can.

There is a very simple and easy process to protect all of your Karaosoft related licenses from being revoked. Let me clarify, the license can be revoked, but the programs will still operate. Feel free to PM me if you want to know more.

I still feel that Karma is the simplest and easiest to use karaoke program on the market.
I still test other hosting apps in the event I decide to change someday.

However...... necessity is the mother of invention.

If you don't like what's available, make your own......

I’ll admit I’m not very techie inclined. Smooth, I'm doing exactly the same after I replaced my show pc. Transfer their song history to a folder, then transfer them to the new pc. Talk about laborious difficult undertaking, loading each song & push play to build their song history again.

So far, I’m only half way. I wonder, is there a faster way to do this? Could’ve been a lot easier - from the folder I can just highlight/drag/drop their songs back to karma.

I've had over 1100 singers since I started using Karma in January 2009. I have removed hundreds of those singers because I have not seen many in more than 3 years (we are a tourist town) and I now have 443 singers in my data base.

Manually restoring the singer history would take too much patience and that is why I still run an old Karma program.

I am working on a number of applications that will address some of the complaints many of us have about Karma. Nothing I can reveal on a broad scale yet, suffice it to say that my Karma poll questions were related. There will be more polls to help align the tools with the needs of hosts.

Hey Chris, is there a way to remove songs from a singer's history, without erasing the whole thing??

Removing a song from a singer's song list automatically deletes all record of the singer ever singing the song instead of just removing it from the singers list of songs.

Yet another example of arbitrary destruction of data by Bob's idiotic design.

Example 1: Run a report of all songs sung at all your shows last year . . . Woo Hooh - 2140 songs played last year.
Now remove all your singers that were one time performers.
Run the same report again. What? Now it says only 1420 songs were played last year?

Example 2: Your history report shows you played 72 songs one night when 2 busloads of tourists came in.
Months later you remove all the tourist singers from your lengthy singer list since they most likely will never come back. Bob "helpfully" removes all traces of them having sung that night.
A year later you run a history report to rank your busiest nights ever. Tour bus night is nowhere to be seen as the 60 songs sung that night disappeared and your history now swears that only 12 songs were sung.

As noted by mrmarog - Open Singer history, highlight the track, press the DEL key. But, as noted by dsm2000, you also remove it from the all up report showing what songs were performed. IMO, removing from Singer History should not erase it from the all up report.

I am working on some utilities that will address some of these issues.

A simple workaround would be for Access to run a query just before the program shuts down that appends a 'history' table with the songs sung. This table would not be affected by filenames being changed or deleted. All reports should be run from this history table. It's really not even a workaround. It's a solution. But in plain English, Latshaw is a just plain *lazy* programmer.
