Post subject: | CAVS Files Question |
I have a drive from an old CAVS unit. The files on it are *.mp3 and *.mcg. Changing the extension to cdg doesn't seem to work at getting the graphics to work. Is there any conversion I can do to make the .mcg files readable with conventional karaoke software? OR... what unit, other than CAVS, will read these files? |

It sounds like you don't have the CDs to go with that drive... So a word of caution: While converting/using this is fine for home use, I would NOT use any Sound Choice or (more likely) Chartbuster product you might find on the drive if you plan to use them as a Karaoke Host at a public venue. The owner (Phoenix Entertainment Partnership aka PEP) of these brands actively sues for trademark infringement. |

Looking to see if I asked for legal advice, or where I mentioned anything about using SC or CB in a public venue, or where this post was otherwise helpful in answering my question.. Looking, looking..... Still looking. Nope. I don't see where I asked for legal advice, or where I mentioned anything about using SC or CB in a public venue, or where this post was otherwise helpful in answering my question. Wait, lemme look again. Nope. Still don't see it. Anyway... A friend's CAVS machine died. They had an external with the CAVS format on it, so rather than them spend the money on a crappy format cavs machine, I suggested they convert the CAVS format music to one useable by current software, but it seems to be time prohibitive at this point. |

As soon as I saw your name, I knew that was a silly reply... but such is life pre-coffee and being up at the ungodly hour it is. The caution is for people who read things and NOT know what the hell is going on in the industry. If I can save one person a headache, its worth making a note of it. Honestly, I wouldn't think its worth it in the first place, Most of the CAVS files I've come across are just numbered. It's a ton of work to rename all the files. |

The program I put up converts an SCDG very quickly. I don't think it should take that long to convert a hard drive, but that's something I've never attempted. |

If the HDD is from JB-99, then conversion will be impossible because the OS system is Dr. Dos. Hooking the HDD to a Windows OS will corrupt the drive. |
