In twenty-ish years of hosting karaoke, I've only ever had at most two or three equipment mal-functions... and none that ever caused me to cancel a show... but last evening came close.

First, my primary lap-top died... just wouldn't boot for some reason. So, I got out my back-up lap-top, and couldn't get sound nor video to the second screen.... Panic!!

Made apologies... two minutes to scheduled start time. Left the venue to get my third lap-top from home. Luckily I live less than five minutes away.

Did a third set-up... got audio and two of the three video feeds... couldn't activate the audience big screen. Started the show twenty-five minutes late. The attendees were very understanding, BUT I've never been so embarrassed when hosting a show.

With the venue's OK, I did an extra hour after our normal shut-down time for free. Needless to say, I'll be back at the venue later today to make whatever corrections necessary, up to and including purchasing a new lap-top if that's what it will take, although it's hopefully just some sort of cable screw-up.

This Can Happen. KJAdam at The Elks Lodge Had a Malfunction a few shows ago. Same issues.
External videoe fubar, no boot, then plugged in second laptop, again fubar video.
Twenty minutes later " we" managed to start the show. (Yes, I was there)
I suspect it was windows updating the video driver. I normally pause updates when I have a show.

I'm usually amazed and in awe when my "home" system starts smoothly! It's usually something for me. I'm "karaoke setup challenged". I always give myself an extra hour, jic. Could never be a host like you. LOL LOL LOL

My first gig ever, the venue had some sort of sound monitor that cut the power over a certain level, wasn't any louder than any other show, and had done multiple private functions before, but within first half hour of show the whole system lost power except my laptop which kept playing faithfully.... I could have had the ground open and fallen in!
