I use a Yorkville 350 watt powered mixer. I have 2 JBL Eon 1500 Passive Speakers (225W handling; 900W peak) for my main speakers (no sub). I use the same JBL speaker for my monitor also.

Some songs I play are recorded very low in volume. I'm trying desperately to tweek the controls to get more power to the speakers. I have turned the monitor send way down - I'm guessing that will allow more power to the mains. At a certain point when I'm turning up the volume I know I'm getting clipping. I don't understand how a 350 watt powered mixer amp isn't pushing more volume in a small venue. Do I have to turn off the monitor to get more power to the mains?

If you are asking about adding more power.

You probally need more. As far as the different levels in songs, a mixer with gain control on your input will allow you to properly get a higher level out of a song with out clipping occuring. Lower song you can raise your input level without changing your output. I would add a sub to your system I use mackie swa-1501's for karaoke they make a huge differance in the over all sound. With a crossover i can send less low frequencies to the main speakers bringing out the voice of the singer from the mix. For a long time I used passive eons for main speakers and while they do the job, I found upgrading to 600watt speakers made a huge difference. I have head room instead of always being at the top.

The big problem is you are under powering your speakers if you are using any of the yourkville powered mixers. All of their specs are at 4ohms. Your speakers are 8ohms. Depending on your setup you may be divinding your output also. I don't remeber the exact formula but 350 watts at 4 ohms is only 175watts at 8ohms.

When I use my passive eons I power them with a Crown XLS602 which is 370watts at 8ohms.

Its all in how they reated the power. Generaly a 350 watt amp means it will put 175 watts into a 2 Ohm load. (3 speakers on each channel.) If you are using two speakers total, you are likely running about 100 watts out.

I do not have a gain control.  :(  I would love to add a sub, but that is just more to transport. I'm a small girl and work alone.

I've thought of using my monitor as a sub and getting a powered monitor. But it seems I do need more power over all.

Do you think it helped to turn down the monitor send?

Babs, how do you have this set up?

Is your player hooked directly to the amp??

I run a small mixer (my second setup uses my Mackie dfx12), and I get the ability to have two units hook up to one device... in my case, the out of the mixer is the in to the amp.

I haven't examined your particular equipment specs, but from your description of your setup I don't have to....I see already you need more power.

Give each main speaker at least 300 watts stereo, and at least 100 for your monitor.

That means you can still use the mixer amp on the monitor but need an outboard amp for the mains.

I suggest you look hard at the Peavey PV1500 power amp. It will go well with your mains and it also includes a few extra features you will find useful.

I was just on the Yorkville site and didn't see a 350W power mixer.  What model is it?  When you power it up how high do you set the mains?  Some people do not set it high enough, thereby making the amp "work harder" ie cranking up the gains. and still not getting the required volume.

I haven't bothered to look up her mixer specs ....If Yorkville calls it a 350 watt powered mixer, then that means it will deliver no more than 100 watts@ 8 Ohms in stereo.

She has two mains that require 225 program each....And you can believe they are 8 Ohm.

So she is already very underpowered BEFORE she bridges the extra 225 watt monitor into the load.

Her little mixer amp is in "speaker distruct mode". Let's hope she understands that before she hurts them nice JBL's....If she can hear the clipping, then she is lucky she can still hear them at all.

I hate all powered mixer makers. They cost many a startup his speakers by failing to truthfully state their power ratings.

My power mixer is at the bar I will check the model when I head back in tonight.

It is an old amp - I can't seem to find it searching the web.

I really think I need to give you all the right information to make sure I'm not hurting my speakers.
