Hi, I am a karaoke fan and went to one last night with my pals - it was great fun. The venue has sosphiscated digital system with songs stored in a somewhat like a computer hard drive (??). As most of my family enjoy the karaoke activities, I am now thinking of buying a home digital system. All of these are new to you and I do not even know what machine is needed as a complete set. As a home cinema fan, I have a set of speakers and an amplifier connected to my dvd player - not quite sure if these can be make use of. I would be most grateful if any one could shed some lights on this for me as to what machines I will need for a complete digital home karaoke system. I have been visited web sites and many of them sell karaoke mixer/amplifier but what machine do I need to play the songs? Many thanks |

Anything you get that's "pre-loaded" with music is pretty much illegal. Right now there is only 1 legal site that even offers downloads & that is CAVS. You might be better off getting a regular disc player & getting the discs - this way you are completely legal & you can take your discs out to shows if you start to venture out more with more & more home practice. Karaoke at home is fun, but limited, once you start singing in front of people is when the fun really begins. |

You can also get legal downloads from Tricerasoft.com and look for downloaded Karaoke on the left hand side. There are also "Legally" loaded CAVS players, but as Lonman said some of their music is crap. I run a CAVS JB-99 system and also run Sax-n-Dottys, PCDJ-KJ, VDJ, Clubdj-Pro, or you can run Winamp for free as long as you have the CDG add on. |

Many thanks Cheapest way...scrap the PC idea, just buy the CDGs (karaoke discs) you want, and a CDG player ,and hook it into your home system . There is a slim chance that your DVD play could allready play CDGs. IF you are stuck on the idea of using a PC, the easiset way is to... 1. Buy the CDGs with the songs you want. 2. Rip the songs to MP3+G (actually 2 files.. MP3 for music and CDG for lyrics) 3. THen use winamp & plugin (free) to play the songs. 4. Since on the PC you will have to get some sort of mixer to combine mics with music. for more help on PC end of it try karaokeplayground.co.uk IMHO get a CDG player and discs for home use, easier, much easier! |

I couldn't disagree more. Home users are notoriously harder on the cdg discs than pro kjs. I'd go with the home computer way. The entire library will be easy to have access to after it's all converted. |
