Post subject:  Peavey Speakers
Im considering these speakers and would like some feedback on them especially if anyone has actually used this model speaker before. Peavey speakers Model #PV215 2 Way Speaker Cab.. Thanks in advance for your feedback.

Well I haven't used this particular model but I do use the SP-4 model - similar design except using the better Black Widow driver & RX22 compression driver for the highs.  They are great speakers - for large rooms with high stages.  Downfalls they are large, bulky & heavy.  The 15" drivers in the PV model only have a 2 3/8" voice coil which means less bass & power handling.  These aren't the field replaceable basket designs either which means if you blow the speaker, you need to pay for an entire speaker assembly which is more costly than just replacing the part that needs replacing.  The PV series was designed to compete with the JBL JRX series - similar situation on their end as well.
What type of rooms do you plan on using these in?  They are designed for larger rooms however will work in smaller rooms if you can get them up off the floor over crowd level - as a single 15" design would be on a stand.  If you leave them on the floor, there would be no projection other than right in front of the room & nothing in the back.   You might be better off getting a single 15" design & sub combo - better versatility for different types & size rooms.

Don't buy them for all the above reasons, and a few more.

If you want a decent pair of Peavey tops that are more pro level, get the single woofer SP2.....They are bullet proof and will fill a very large venue, but require 1000 watts each to do it right.

Peavey's DJ series cabs are better voiced for KJ/DJ work and are lots cheaper than their SP series and more suited for KJ/DJ stuff than the PV series cabs.

I think all KJ's should look at Peavey's Triflex system..It is self powered, includes a great subwoofer, two decent top cabs and speaker stands....It even includes their $300 Kosmos effects unit.....Super simple to setup and operate...Great for small and medium sized bars.....Not at all expensive either.

Go to peavey site and download their latest Monitor magazine for a great articl on the TriFlex.....But be warned the download is 24meg.

The PV115 is a good choice for home use, but not commercial stuff.

As an alternate look at the Peavey Sp5's - I have an older set of the Sp5g's and swear by them - againg they are bullet proof but HEAVY. But they sound awsome ...

You are correct....Sorry I forgot the SP5's. They really are a good choice for most smaller venues or home use.

I'm Peavey whenever I can be.......I ain't queer for their gear, but if they offer something that really does well for the money, then I use it cause you just can't beat their reliability, service and support.

I've owned several Peavey items I tossed or gave away, and some you couldn't pry out of my hands....It just depends on the item.....I would KILL for one of their out of production VMP-2 preamps.....And no one could talk me out of my Q231FX dual 31 band EQ...I had their first Kosmos and gave it to a stranger in Austin Tx, then bought a 882A BBE cause it sounded much better......Their new Kosmos Pro is a big improvement, but I can't justify it over the BBE at this time.

I have their VSXII crossover and will hang on to it, but in no way does it outdo their X-1 that I have plugged into my top racked CS800S and feeding my SP2G's and subs...I keep the VSXII for those times I triamp and put a full 600 watts to my top woofers, otherwise the X-1 module is the best for indoors stuff.

Peavey does a few things better than anybody....but they also do lots of things not so good.....So i guess they are like anyone else in the MI scene.

I do know that their QW series cabs are starting to command world class attention and that they are starting to focus their amp line in that direction too. But at the same time, their mixers have failed to keep up....It's like they pick their battles now a days. :(

Rather get a cab with a power horn, a 8 or 10 inch mids driver and then the 15 inch. The vocals will be much clearer throught the mids then just the bass driver.

It's ashame Carvin only has a handful of stores (where a person can sample their quality) in California.  Many won't buy without actually hearing and seeing an item first. Carvin (at least in the past) alway's had a no question's asked return policy, yet I wish their was a way to actually hear what you're getting as opposed to having to buy first, without the option of running a head-to-head comparison.

I hear ya, I feel the same way.  I've heard several sets including the TRx series & these are nice speakers.  Our band used an entire Carvin PA from the mixer, amps, speakers including subs, & the sound was a shade less than phenominal.
