We were scheduled to run the locks at 0600 going into Amsterdam with a light cruiser By the time I made it up to the main deck we had cleared the locks and was criusing at about 4 knots down the canal. The first sight I saw was windmills at the top of the hill. Holstein cows were grazing in pastures lined with white fences and tulips. The bank of the canal was only about 50 feet away and there were boats of all descriptions going both ways in the canal.. Boats are the major source of transportation as most of the streets are canals. People off all ages were waving and smiling with a welcome. The kids were going nuts seeing a ship that size so close...We morred to a pier that was right next to big building that had offices real close. Everybody was looking out the windows and waving.. I have been all over europe but the netherlands is one of the most beautiful countries in the world.. The people are extremely friendly and laid back and know how to party... Most placws I've been dont have a hankering to go back but sure would like to go back there... Next story will be about canal street where the gals sit in their picture windows and beckon to sailors..... |

Me and my shipmate are strolling pigally in Naples..... A lady leans out a second story window and calls out, "Hey sailors, come up here and I'll give you something you never had before!".... I poke my buddy in the ribs and reply, "That poor gal must have leprosy!" |

We were walking down the same one on shore patrol. A sailor yelled out of the window "help' I had to go up and rescue him.. I walked into the room.. She said patrol no *** .... Naples was one of my favorite ports unless there was 40 subs and 2 carriers in port... |

Chicago Club 2 shots of white rum and I woke up 3 days later in a fleazy hotel down on the waterfront. Missed movement the rock was down in gitmo... Checked into the local base A couple days later a c 47 flew down.. Went to mast but right before that I saved the day when the hotshot civilian engineers had to change the final klystron in the missle traching radar They didnt know how to tune it.. So the old man said go wake snuff up.. I tuned it and saved the day...So I go to mast just knowing Im gonna get busted again.. The old man looked at me and said you know I think you should take advantage of the buddy system, when you go on the beach go with 2 or 3 others.. Dismissed.... I went back down below and almost balled... LOL |

SaturdaySinger will be all over this one! well if He's not gonna tell on himslef, i'll tell on him! i only know one, but he was in for new year's eve a couple of years ago. should i......yeah, of course i should! his punched don't hurt THAT much! anyway, we stayed up, me, him and his dad until it was new years in hawaii i think. anyway, we solved ALL the world's problems that night. unfortunately we dind't write it all down! anyway, his dad woke up the next morning to the sound of running water. so he goes into the bathroom and there's SaturdaySinger leaning over the sink basin fast asleep on his feet! there's ummm...... everywhere. his dad cleans him up, puts him out on the futon and that's when he notices a BIG BLACK EYE! apparently when Singer went to sleep he hit the faucet on the way down. he woke that afternoon with a bag of frozen peas on his face. he asked why so we told him the check the mirror. The funny thing is he had to go back and face his superior officer the next day! he never DID tell us what his stpry was, but maybe he'll tell it here! i know this isn't a war story or anything, but it's funny as hell....at least it is to me and his dad! |

Ok Crank, thanks for spreadin' my buisiness all over. You know I hate that story. Anyways, I told my Plt. Comander and CO that I had been in a minor altercation with a drunk guy who hit his girlfriend, and that he got in a cheap shot when I wasn't ready. Needless to say they were ok with that because I told them I felt that I was "morally obligated" to do something. |

Rule number one never tell a drunken story about yourself. Always say a friend of mine. . Now many years ago when I was a Meathead (a Canadian Military Policeman, and hey I think I recognize some of you ), I was on patrol in the maried quarters when at 0400 hrs (that's 4:00am for civilians or the big hand on the twelve and little hand on the four for Mickey Mouse watch wearers) when a call comes in that a BBQ was being walked down the street by three guys. I get in the area and turn on my takedown light (bright light in front of the police cruiser) and tell the three of them to halt. Of course being the bright guys they were, they took off in three different directions. I single one of them out and the chase is on. He was about 50 yds in front on me when it started. Anyways we were running and goes on front of one of the MQs. I decide to take the rear because I has a feeling he was going to double back and sure enough he did. I was ready for him. As he turned the corner there I was all braced and slammed into me and fell on his a$$. Long story short I arrested him and after trying to BS me he gave everything up including his friends. Talk about a Bugs Bunny moment. I'll tell my story of a body in the parking lot at a later date. |

I've got a lot of good stories from the military (Air Farce), but I also have some I'd rather not dredge up... brings back the nightmares full force. If I think of the good ones, they inevitably lead to the bad ones too... sorry folks, I'll pass on this dance |
