First make sure it's plugged in. that always helps with sound...
Seriously,The same thing you just did...find the best place for the speakers.
Our venue is med sized...so...it carry's well.

There are many different venues and setups . I recently helped my bro in a new setup and the old instincts came into play.. It was in the afternoon and the owner was present.. These are things that go beyond setting procs and eq for acoustics I asked where the previous kj had his speakers. Determined whether quality or loud was the priority Found out where the circuit breakers were. Didnt do a test on the outlets the previous kj didnt have any problems...Set the average volume it increases for a large cowd... These are just a few I do alot more What do you do? |

and placement of the TV monitor is critical to make sure it aint right in front of the mains, and best placement to cut down on wiring (power and video cables). Also gotta check the placement of the equip so the mic cords (until we go cordless) arent creating a danger zone.. Speaker placement is the biggie for us too |

KKid, as for volume, that has come up, but more on private parties. Had the local cops show up once when we were at an apartment complex clubhouse, all they did was ask to lower the volume. Outdoor private parties can be touchy with volume - we had the sheriff show up at our house when we had a pool party karaoke, and we were trying to figure out who complained since most of the neighbors were there.... He said he heard the music when he did a traffic stop a ways away, and followed the music

I would say speaker placement is my biggest concern. As far as sound - there doesn't seem to be a way to set sound completely until the room is full of people. I'm always adjusting. I like a clear sound with the music level right above the noise of the crowd. Good point about cables. I had one bar that didn't want duct tape used on their floor. It made me a little nervous, so I borrowed one of their rugs and through it over the cords. You'd think the bar would be more worried about someone getting hurt then a little duct tape - please. |

Buy the solvent solution and tell them that you'll clean up once a month with it...
If they complain, ask them what they want to do to solve a problem of customer's slipping or tripping. One thing that they might have a problem is with people SUING them!

I only had a show there once. They don't even like karaoke in their bar. They said it brang in to many people. Yes these people are crazy? A fight broke out at the end of the night in the parking lot and the owners freaked. I explained when you have a big crowd you have more potential for that kind of thing. I think they are worried people might actual go to their bar. Which means the new interior will be touched. It's a bar! People will put cigarettes out on the floor, they will drop glasses and bottles occassionally. I think they bought the bar just to say they have one. |

so, what do others do with the power and video cables? When possible, I try to route them away from where singers are walking, but the nature of karaoke having a TV in front of the singers usually means cables across the floor. I have used duct tape, had a rubber door mat I used for a while, have borrowed floor mats from some places.... c'mon, who has a better idea to share? |

If you are at a permanent spot I can give you some options. I have installed about every system going. If it has a false ceiling you can lay speaker wire or co-ax on top of it (dont do anything above the salad bar in a Dennys) Sometimes you can hide small wires under the moulding along the floor. For external speakers coming out of a jukebox we would put plastic moulding up to the ceiling to hide the wires. In some intercom systems I mounted a j box in the wall and put chassis xlr jacks in it. You need access to the attic... In a real permanent situation I would hang the speakers from the ceiling... Always wrap the power cord and speaker wire around and thru the speaker stands.. I do run a 50 foot snake and at times run it above an entry way. It is an option but I dont like doing it unless I can hide it somewhat.. Those are a few off the top of my head.. |

Now it's noise ordinances getting stricter, they take away right to smoke in small private establishments, strictly regulate liquor laws, clamp on DUI laws, raise the drinking age, make permits much tougher to get... Seems like a slow move back to "dry" times. How can smaller bars endure this type squeeze ? |

if it's a regular venue and they have beams around the room as many neighborhood bars do, you can run your cords and wires above the ceiling and down a beam. that's how i've got mine run and it works great, plus they're out of the way. |

I have a stage so I can run mineagainst the bottom. I block all entrances except one side, so I can control where they walk. I always wrap my cords around the speaker poles and legs to the floor. Then put a piece of duct tape at the bottom to the floor. |
