hi all, i am planning on buying a karaoke system for my home in the very near future and have been reading over the threads so i can have a nice sounding system that i will be happy with . i made the MISTAKE of purchasing an all-in-one unit (VocoPro Gigman), boy was that a disappointment!!! ![]() ![]() I also need to know how all this is hooked up so the lyrics show up on tv screen.... i would assume the cdg player hooks into the pa speakers and the speakers hook up to tv for this to work. not sure though, tia |

With regard to a player there are many good players on the market. Depending on you budget you can generally get a good player for $125 to $300 that will last you a very long time. I prefer JVC single or triple tray units as they are kinda bulletproof. They will play CDG as well as VCD they have good key changer and most features you would be looking for. Before I went 100% computerized I used my JVC for 4 gigs per week for about 5 years and I still use it for home use in my studio. RSQ is another good player as well both look and play identical. If you look in the lower left margin of this site there are sponsors listed there and most of them will have a good selection of players at reasonable prices. With regard to the sound system WHAT IS YOUR $ BUDGET FOR THE HOLE SYSTEM? |

thanks flipper, it seems a lot of posters like the jvc players. they seem to be reliable and good quality players from what i have read on here. will they play a burned karaoke cdg disc made from my pc? i've heard some players will not, and know from experience that vocopros have trouble playing burned cdrs. i will prob buy the SoundTech S20 PA speaker system 165 watts $199.00, and would prob spend around $200.00 for a cdg player or maybe a little more. this is strictly for home, but i'm sure would sound much better than what i had. |

I've never had a problem with Burned Discs as long as they are CDR's. I did have some problems with CDRW's though. As far as your home sound system I will let others comment as many would have more experience on them. I have more input when it comes to Club systems. |

cdr's are what i would be using, so maybe this would be a good player for me. i will check on the prices. thanks a lot for your help flipper! the burned cdr's that you have tried on your jvc are in karaoke format where the lyrics play on the tv screen i assume? how would you hook up this player? would i run it through the PA speaker and connect the PA speaker to my tv to get my lyrics on screen? i 'm not good at all with tech stuff ![]() |

There is an output on the player that connects to the tv directly. So from your karaoke player audio to your sound system and video to you tv. |

Josh and Denna, I'm not sure where you are from, but if you're in Canada or near Canada, Many of the Electrohome players play CD+Gs, and you can find them in the $100Cdn area, They are durable (I use one in shows I do and my partner has one for back-up) and the load up isn't too bad for a multi-player. Ideal for home use with a mixer and speakers. It also has a key changer which works very well. |

There's so many cdg players out there to choose from. i really would like a pioneer, but they are a bit pricey for me, really and truly all i really need is just a single tray with a key changer and maybe a few more nice features. i only have cdg disc and my backup burned discs, etc...... no other formats keeping it simple , so the player would only have to play cdg's and be compatible to read my burned cdg disc also. if someone knows of a player described to do these things please let me know. |

take a look at this little player! http://acekaroke.com/rj-tech-dvd-dvd-r- ... layer.html I have been looking at this one to play music videos and an occasional customer disc that won't play through my computer. It has some great features and is priced less than $80. I think this would be a great little player for home use. |

flipper, wow that one would prob be perfect for home use. $80.00 what a bargain for all those features, the only thing i didn't see was a key changer. it has a 1 year warranty i noticed. i will add that to my list. thanks |

I would urge caution on buying this... on another site, a member there did get one, and he immediately returned it. Be careful on paying less than realistic prices for hardware that says that it can do a lot! |

Which means if you need to change keys you would need to purchase an external key changer, which isn't a big deal, but does add to the cost pretty much back to where a player with one built in would run. |
