Post subject:  Just so you know

Howdy folks. I'll try not to be as long winded as I normally am, but I've had this on my mind and just wanted folks to know a couple of things.
Lately I've gotten kind of heavy handed with my comments and actually I'm feeling kinda guilty about it all. I'm at a point in my life where I say live and let live.
People are going to have opinions about things, and it's really not my place to say who's right or who's wrong on any given subject. Most of my personal rants are about putting the fun back into Karaoke, and several of my comments are in direct contradiction with that.
Run your show the way it suits you best. Learn from others and apply as needed.
Forget the drama, don't lower yourself down to others negativity. Just let it go.

As for me, I am truly thankful for every chance I get to have a show. I take nothing for granted. Arrogance is a fools badge of honor and it's a trait that I try to separate myself from. I know it's easy to get caught up in things here at the forum and fall victim to criticisms. I just wanna rise above that. We have guest that come here, with hopes and dreams of someday doing their own show, and I would not want to be the one whose comments prevented them from doing so.

People will always try to push your buttons and see if they can get a rise out of you, and if you retaliate in similar fashion, then they've achieved their selfish goal.

I want no enemies from this site. In fact it is my hopes that someday I will have as much experience as some here to also be a mentor to others that come looking for answers as I did.

Accept this as my apology. Now I'm not saying that I wont refrain from the usual crass humor that certain subjects merit. I just want to keep in on the light side and hope that folks will know that it would never be my intention to purposely hurt someone with my remarks.

Nuff said.

It's easy to make enimies, but it takes work to make and keep friends...you seem like a worker to me.....

Mistakes, we all make them. Some people have enough character and backbone to look past them. You are that kind of person James.

James I appreciate that post and agree 100%  I have made some drunken posts on here and went off the deep end and po'd some ... But they realized after  awhile to ignore me Well Ollie's drunk again  LOL I dont mind anymore the folks using this forim for a vent type post or discussing certain subjects...It seems that no matter how old you are posting in a forum or chatting in a chat room starts out as a newbie and requires experience and maturity.. So the new posters are like a child and the same patience and tolerance is required here.. I still cant believe how serious people get here ...They act like its a life or death situation ...

The one question I have is do you think any this affects your karma in any way?

As a matter of fact I do. I've lived a great deal of my life being an angry drunkard, pi$$ off at the world for things that I only have myself to blame. But there comes a time when you have to say stop, enoughs enough. I look back now and I really get disappointed at how much energy I wasted on anger. But that was then this is now.

Tonight, I'm doing a birthday party for a buddy of mine. All of his friends have some out to the Marina and they're ready to sing some Karaoke. Now I could tell by their looks, that maybe just maybe they didn't come from the wealthiest of families and probably didn't get a chance to get out very often. All of the kids came up all at once wanting to grab a book and songslips. They grouped together and looked over page after page, writing down songs, laughing, cutting up with each other on how bad the other one sang, so forth and so on, you know, kids just being kids. They bombard me with 10 songs right off the bat, no biggie, let the fun begin.
With God as my witness though, I kid you not, not a single one of those ragamuffin children could hold a note if their lives depended on it. And the worse part of it is, they didn't pick out regular songs, oh no, they wanted to do Alicia Keyes, Celine Dion, Kelly Clarkson...
I mean talk about a butchering. But it was at that point that I'm standing there dreading the soon to be migraine from hell, that it dawned on me what I've been trying to get across to certain folks this week. Here these kids were, tone deaf as all get out, but having the time of their lives. Smiles on every face, laughter from all of their brothers and sisters, without a single care in the world. Proud parents snapping off shots like their kids were on stage at American Idol. The one thought that came to my mind, is wow, I made this happen. How lucky am I that I can do this job?
The night went on, five hours went by and I realized, not a break was taken, not a moment of silence, song after song played to a very appreciative audience. I was tired, but dayum did I feel great.
Handshakes and hugs were exchanged as they left for the evening. All the parents making it a point to come up and thank me personally for allowing the kids a chance to sing. Some folks would think, 'well it's my job' but me, I'm thinking, it was my pleasure.
That's karma. Taking the time to realize that as an individual, I am not the most important person in the world. I try to do good things and here lately good things have come to me. I wouldn't trade it for the world.

But this story wasn't really the point I was trying to make. In the middle of a song tonight, I'm standing there midverse, and I start thinking, 'you know I could've handle things a lot better this week than I did'. Like I said, I'm in the middle of a song and that's what was on my mind. Replaying events, thinking of ways I could've handled things better. Big events in my life don't seem to phase me anymore, it's the simple things that give me cause to pause and reflect.

You know I could have answered your question with a simple yes, but as usual, I always feel the need to ramble, so forgive me once again. It's just that your question did prompt a lot of thought. So when anyone reading this goes, 'Jesus does he ever shut up?'.....LOL, I can just blame this one on you. :D

Well James, Just so you know....I respect you  :hi5:   :worship:

By the way, I would like to come to one of your shows  :D

If we can drive 4-6 hours to go to an Elvis tribute show, then I think maybe we can drive up to see you & your show sometime  :handshake:  :D

Thank you Jesse, that's very kind of you to say. You folks and anyone here are always welcome at my shows. Although, I don't know that I merit the same love and respect that an Elvis Tribute show does, it's hard to beat the King in any form or fashion.
A footnote: This will be my last week for doing outdoor shows. The cooler weather has set in and playing outdoors just isn't as much fun when you're freezing your buns off.
I have two more shows this week and then that will be it for the winter. The gigs were nice while they lasted, but I knew it was a limited venture. Hopefully next spring they will resume. It's time to get ready for the holiday season and hopefully some private parties.
I will still be at my regular gig at Terrace View Marina every Friday night, which is a great place to play, it's so laid back and everybody knows your name, kinda like Cheers.
Again, thank you so much.

Glad the karma is picking up for you James. I know the feeling. I always feel...."but for the grace of God, there go I". In other words I realize how fortunate I am in so many ways. Things can always be worse, and any gift you have comes from God. When we all stop bitchin and complaining and looking at the world and life with thankfulness - syncronicity occurs. Remember life is fragile, and no one really knows how long they have. Consider Steve Irwin, and remember to live your life and every day with passion for what you love for as long as you can.
