I just got a notice that the update was ready to download on my computer. It asked for a varification to be done. It was going to cheack to see if I had a valid version of Windows XP. The verification literally took a split second after I pushed the validate button. The down load took 5 minutes. It scanned for unwanted software. If it thought this was a boggus XP version, I imagine it would have turned it off. BIG BROTHER watching BIGDOG. :O  :( |

I stopped using IE several years back, so I don't have to deal with those issues. When AOL took over Netscape I stopped using them as well. Started using Firefox, have been happy ever since. |

When AOL took over Netscape I stopped using them as well. Started using Firefox, have been happy ever since. has anybody noticed when you go to panda bear and the other online scanners for virus They used to not support Firefox > so one had to shift to IE and scan . Maybe its my imagination but after that surfing even with Firefox seems to be slower. I really think the viable solution is total format and re-install periodically. It seems the longer you use an OS it gets slower and slower even with disc cleanup and ferag.I do notice they are getting more lax on re-activation. I had one update to a newer mo board and the auto activation reverted to a live person. She asked if gthis was for only one comp I assured her it was and she activated it Recently in the same process it re-activated automatically. This paranoid government had me paranoid now.. |

I formatted the hd then re-installed & disabled microsoft update...then installed firefox like maninblack....because IE 7 has some stupid bug that MS doesnt have a fix for yet...needless to say they ask how I was enjoying my windows live one care...I told them actually I wasnt because I had to delete the stupid crap due to the bug in IE 7 where it would not close unless I used a task manager prog LMAO I told them that my next computer would be Apple & running osx....That I've been a die hard MS user for the last 10 years and Im sick of there crap bug ladden junk and tired of them trying to disable my OS under the guise of security updates LMAO I now have my Raw sockets back....Thank you :D |

I tried FireFox, couldn't get used to it. Seemed very slow to start up & load pages & it doesn't support alot of the same HTML codes that IE & Netscape do so several webpages I tried loading weren't complete or laid out incorrectly. I LOVED the tab feature however, but wasn't enough to keep me there. |

Just my two cents. I too have been using Firefox for about three years now. Newest version is also out. There is a additional download called "FasterFox." It noticeably makes the web faster. We use it on all of our computers at all stations with our fire department. In addition our main computer place in town is a Dell certified center and they strongly recommend it over IE. But, to each his own. A lot of times it boils down to what we get used to and feel the most comfortable with. it took me a long time to move from using Outlook Express to Outlook. But I did and am glad of that also. Kelly |

I have XP Pro but just like Firefox better. But it's OK that you like I.E. 6. Kelly- Who encourages everyone to be more agreeable with those of difference in opinion. ![]() |

Boy I'm glad you said that. I tried Firefox for a short time and could not get used to it. Knock on wood I've never had a problem with IE. I know there are security holes, but it has never been a problem for me. I just try and make sure I do all in my power to make sure I am protected. I updated a while ago to 7. I like the new look. |

My problem with IE and Netscape is that they release their versions before all the bugs are worked out. So that means the consumer gets to be the guinea pig for all of their stuff. It's like, 'Hey your new browser allowed such and such malware into my computer, what can I do about it' Microsofts response will most likely be: 'Thanks for the heads up, we hadn't thought about that, we'll look into it and a month from now, we'll send you an update patch to download that may or may not work.' I personally have never had a problem with Firefox, but then again that's just me. Results may vary depending upon your computer use. One thing to always keep in mind, the day Microsoft releases anything new, the hackers have already been at work for at least a month trying to figure out way to breach it. But regardless of what anyone uses, a safe rule of thumb is to always make sure your firewall is constantly on and updated. Better safe than sorry. (in my best Forrest Gump voice) and that's all I have to say about that. ![]() James |

I've been using IE7 for about two months now. I started out with the beta version they offered. They've incorporated the 'tab" feature now too. The only annoying problem I've had so far is the one that Jesse mentioned. Sometimes IE7 will not close properly and you have to use the End Task routine. Hope they get that fixed soon. Otherwise, it seems fine. I have not tried Firefox. Can somebody explain to me what is so good about it(other than the fact that it's not MS ha,ha)? Just curious. :) |
