I am 64 years old and recently retired.  I have been singing karaoke for about 15 years and have loved music all my life.  I am working on setting up a few Senior Centers in the area to do some afternoon karaoke shows.  The rooms would be small to medium in size, 15 to 50 people.  I would like to purchase a system that I call semi-pro and start out with a reasonably decent starter library of music.  I am bugeting between $2000 and $2500 for system and music.  What equipment and music will work???  I have heard a lot about Cavs super cdg and RSQ neo+g players, how is the quality of those systems.  Help!!!

I have a cavs and I am not that impressed with it.

Thank you, Morgan, I have heard quite a bit of less than positive comments on that.  I wonder if the Neo+g works better?

Then I would buy a couple of good quality microphones like Shure SM58's and some 25ft XLR mic cords

RSQ or Acesonic player would work just fine

Hi Flipper.....These would be open Karaoke shows.

a really good start on the music would be Sound Choice Foundation sets 1 & 2
and then add the Foundation Bricks to it as you can afford it. I think there are 5 bricks.

I saw a deal on Ebay a couple of days ago for all of the above for like $950....man was that a good deal. Do a search on ebay and you will see what is currently available.

by the way Larry the reason I selected those sound systems was because of the size and weight of them. You should be able to fit everything into a rolling suitcase or a rolling dock cart and be good to go. This will come in handy as many senior or Nursing homes require you to pack your stuff in quite a ways before you get to where you set up.

Any one of those systems will have plenty of power for the use intended and have decent mixing capabilities as well. No sense in overkill.

Thanks again Flipper........I was thinking the same thing as far a Sound Choice Foundation and Bricks are concerned.  On players, do you think it would be advantagious to have NEO-G capabilities rather than not?

Guess that depends on whether you will need to play other formats besides CDG &VCD

The industry has been CDG for a long time and will eventually shift but who knows what format it will be.

I used, and still have 2 of them, when I was Disc bassed.  They are rugged, and simple to use.

I am not sure that is appropriate for the Senior Center -- some Chartbuster
Essential for the 60s, Mitch Miller et al, and some Show tunes would be a real
good start. I have some of that stuff, and the disks I recommend would be

CBEP472-01 to CBEP472-06
CBE451 to CBE456

There is a DK sale at karaoke.com right now, and you can't go wrong
at $5 per disk. The ones for the senior center would be:

I was going to suggest the same thing that mckyj57 suggested: go with Chartbuster Essential packs for your crowd; it more relevent music for your purpose, Chartbuster is good quality, especially for older rock and country, and the price is bit easier on the wallet  :yes:
