vicki is dealing with porn banners because she is accessing via an anonymous proxy server I guess most of their clients are into porn and dont want to be traced. I dont go to suspect sites and am very careful about having up to date security, it is unlikely I would have a virus, trojan or worm and even more unlikely that so many people from different parts of the world would be affected at exactly the same time

Here's a great example of irony!!! I went up to Microsoft.com and checked to see if there were any Windows XP security updates. On the Update page I got this message instead: "The website has encountered a problem and cannot display the page you are trying to view. The options provided below might help you solve the problem." LMAO

It's not just Verizon. When I attempt to reach Karaoke Scene to just read it (not sign in) I can't reach the site from America Online. I receive the following message.
Error 504 'www.karaoke-f...' Gateway Timeout.
Try reloading the Web page.
Retype the address in your browser.
Check your computer's Internet connection.
search Try searching:
Now, I might suspect this to be my computer assuming I had a difficult time reaching other internet sites from my other addresses. I have no problems reaching other sites. I know nothing about Firewalls, but from my standard ISP (sbcglobal) I have no current problems reaching Karaoke Scene presently. I did however when we first noticed this problem last week. At that point I *was* able to access this site from America Online but as mentioned in initial post, NOT from sbcglobal. When I attempt to reach Karaoke Scene from one of several Yahoo SN's when not on my main sbcglobal.net ISP, but directly from a Yahoo domain, or America Online google browser I get the same "timeout" mesage. Is this a firewall problem ? I've tried to improvise and enter the site several ways but something appears to be blocked.
Strange thing is however, I have *No* current access problems from my USUAL ISP currently which is sbcglobal.net, regardless of whether I attempt access to Karaokescene using my bookmarked site, or might just enter "keyword Karaokescene" in search engine. As you'll recall May 26 in the OP here my problem was the opposite.
Quote: Connect Problem, high speed cursor flickering. Handshaking with main server ??? I had to connect from an America Online ISP. Couldn't connect from Yahoo.
Does this sound like a firewall problem ? Might there be a new anti-hacker software program on Karaokescene that also blocks out several ISP's of members that access via these sites ? Reason I'm wondering this is because the last several weeks prior to whatever modifications were made I got many blocked pop-up ads when entering KS. Now, I don't get any popups. Security software might be impeding access for some

OK.. here's something to toss out there..
Phill.. by any chance did something change for KS/SS? like did it move to a new server recently.. or get a new IP address... that it's DNS would have gotten broken out on the net and some ISP's have updated and others haven't for some reason?
and why does it seem like this started happening around the same time as the "fix" for the grey on grey? I don't know.. weird coincidence if you ask me. .
here's another cool lil item that leaves me wondering...
right now THIS is the only IE window I've got open and it's to THIS site.. and yet my NIC card is showing nonstop activity.. solid transfer of data.. ?? I've checked my processes and nothing's running like windows updates or antivirus, etc.. and I'm clean.. no viruses, trojans, or other what have ya.. or spyware..

funny - I close this.. my only IE window open.. and the data stream stopped..
I re-open IE.. to my normal home page.. data stream is only showing as long as it takes to load that page..
I come back here.. nonstop data stream again? I don't know.. weird stuff happening around here
maybe the site is possessed?

What I don't understand in that particular case, is why would I have been able to hit this site easily from AOL, and Yahoo ISP's but NOT my usually ISP which is SBCGlobal, yet less than a week later this reversed ?
Is it possible that a designer is making changes and not including Phill and Mods ? OR, is it possible that this is virus activity that is playing with site configuration ?
Reason being, We ALL noticed the light grey barely visible font whether access was difficult or not. Is it just coincidental that THAT problem happened at the same time as an access configuration change ? or has a virus been introduced that is randomly scrambling KS config ? What would cause that type of graphics change as well as seemingly random access problems ? Somebody unfamiliar with this programming ? Assuming they knew WHY and they knew there would be probs for a good portion of membership why has nobody been told about these changes in KS ? or, is this several different things happening randomly, unknown to all powers that be ?

Is Darryl still around the east coast DATA center ? Who would know about access issues ?
One other random thought because I've seen this type question asked before. Is EVERYBODY having access problems using Windows XP ?
This is over my head, BUT would something about adjusting the coding for that light grey font situation throw off site access for some ? or are these two unrelated issues ?

I notified KS website/tech and I'll keep you posted if/when I hear anything. That is assuming they don't tell me to mind my own business and shutup LOL.
(I hope this is unrelated to the earlier conversation about Martians, Crop Circles, and The Luminatii)

I know Joyce is using XP.. but so am I.. I'm able to get here she's not..
Hey Vicki... can you do this...
in XP it would be ..
Start.. run...
cmd < then OK
black screen ...
type
ipconfig/all < just like that then press enter
write down what your DNS numbers show
then you can do... at the next prompt
nslookup www.karaoke-forum.com xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx << replace the x's with one of your DNS numbers... then press enter.. try it with the 2nd DNS number if you were given more than one number in your IPCONFIG result
What type of reply do you receive??
A successful one will look like this:
Non-authoritative answer:
Name: www.karaoke-forum.com
Address: 64.20.49.194
to exit the screen..
Just type EXIT and press enter on your keyboard
or// if you want to send me what your DNS #'s showed.. I can do a nslookup for you from my end using those DNS

Foxe, I can head over to America Online and try that. Only thing that confuses me is, I copied my SBCGlobal search info where I can access into America Online ISP, and couldn't access. Would I need to reconfigure something differently to access on a differet ISP ? assuming I'm coming from the same system ? On the same system I can't reach KS on different ISP's.
One other fact (because I wish to make no assumptions), this current computer is linked via router. Should all access attempts be made thru my main system in such a case ? I know nothing about what this sites configuration would differentiate between.

response:
Administration knows about the problem, and they HAVE been attending to it. The difficulty so-far appears to be that this is an elusive situation meaning NOBODY shows as blocked. This doesn't currently appear to be a Karaokescene software configuration problem. They ARE aware of the problem, and are working very hard on this currently non-perceptible situation. Nobody is intentionally being "ignored", they are *extremely* busy.

Cindy, there's ONE other possibility I can think of, which might have something to do with this ? Dunno..
Within the past week or-so, I have gotten at least 4 compulsory updates, three from AOL. I wonder how many people having probs hitting this site have received updates that MIGHT'VE changed their configuration. I've received NO updates on my SBCGlobal primary ISP and I CAN reach KS from SBCGlobal. I have received updates on AOL. I also attempted to see what the updates were prior to applying them (not that I had a choice they wouldn't go away ), I wonder if these changed aspects of configuration. How many have received updates on their ISP lately that can't hit this site ?

Did an experiment, and if you can make heads/tails out've this it might help.
The problem (at least regarding America Online access) appears to somehow be an America Online block, not vice versa..
I switched my ISP on AOL from Google to Netscape. I wasn't able to access Karaokescene with or without content blocks on. I signed out've America Online and changed my Internet Exporer search engine to "Netscape", I was able to readily access Karaokescene regardless of content filters on or off. It seems using netscape all should be able to hit this site. I'm currently here from Netscape.

Quote: When you get updates from AOL....How do you know that they are legit???
These were not updates sent via Email. They originated from America Online.
Regarding virus activity. Not currently detectable on *MY* systems assuming it exists, and I've run quite a few scans. As to whether there was some massive memorial day weekend *virus*, that too was something I've been wondering
