yeah from what I can see.. my path to this site is completely different than Vicki's.. and every server along my path apparently has accepted whatever DNS entries were changed here..
and yeah.. it could be related to Sat's.. "fix" of the grey on grey.. or other maintenance work done on Sat I'm guessing..
Add another person to this list...
BruceFan4Life
Connected to another ISP and it worked just fine.. but his.. nope..

Well, at least from sbcglobal. I'll need to go to my main computer to attempt to see what happens when I attempt to connect from America Online.

Here's another thought. Using Network-Tools I pinged www.karaoke-forum.com and www.singersshowcase.com. They both resolved to IP address 64.20.49.194. Now in the past for my 2 websites when I was unable to directly connect due to nameserver related ip address change I could always alternatively connect by using the actual ip address. The DNS nameserver is just a directory list that looks up ip address based on name. I tried that with the ip address above http://64.20.49.194/ and it wouldn't work. That is likely because karaoke-forums address is shared with singersshowcase so there needs to be an additional qualifier. Offhand I don't know what that would be but it would follow the switch. One of my websites has a dedicated ip address and the other one has a shared ip address with other webservers. For the dedicated one I can type in the ip and go straight there. For the shared one it requires further qualification in order to reach it. Does anyone know what further qualification we need between KS and SS to add to the ip address above? If so everyone should be able to access normally but just with the ip address as opposed to the name of the site.
The other alternative is the ip will also not work. If that is the case it is a more complicated situation than just a nameserver issue and could still be the actual KS / SS webhost blocking various IP ranges.

Ohhh I feel like I am Dorothy, trying to get back to Kansas.. where is that Wizard of Oz?? Ok, so I am on the yellow brick road, known as a 'proxy server'.. Thank you Vicki, Morgan, Odie, Cindy for your assistance...
Here's my report: Since early last Saturday morning, I haven't been able to log on to any part of KS... ( internet explorer cannot display this page) I knew something was fishy since those I chatted with were able to get on the site. I called my provider, Verizon.. the rep thought a hacker got on the site and therefore others having a Verizon address would be blocked because of it..Now I have found out other ISP besides Verizon have been blocked so I guess that rules out that theory...it wasn't till yesterday that I learned that so many were also being locked out..
It will be interesting to see how long it will before it gets solved.. I probably won't understand the explanation anyway!!

yay Joyce well.. popups are annoying but so's not gettin ghere .. arhghh
and yep Kappy.. all your hops are successful there.. to the same IP Bill and I are seeing the site resolve to... your AOL service more than likely takes a different "highway" to get here.. and should fail at some given point.. maybe the same as Vicki's did.. but could be different..

oh and btw...
here's some crud news I thought I could share..
I've been working with a bank that my customer's haven't been able to access its site for 2 weeks now.. and it's the same scenario as this..
The bank made a change to their site.. it ended up changing an IP pointing to their site.. when that happened somewhere along the line.. their DNS "broke".. and some servers picked it up.. but others .. fought with it..
The bank has had to make a couple changes with their server host to "reset" their DNS.. but I think they are now playing nicely with all the servers in Internetland again..

Cindy, I can't get any pinging or trace when I exit my SBC and sign onto America Online assuming I attempt a new tracert on any system. I just get a "timed out could not find server" on the page, and tracert doesn't acknowledge Karaoke scene. (My guess is this is tougher with router and a site like America Online) assuming your main config can access the site in question ?? It appears that this site is blocked from America Online. The trace doesn't complete even when I enter the apparent site IP..My system finds the text sites, and acekaroake as well as all surrounding related sites, references to KS contests which of course open when clicked, but text such as "Karaoke Scene - Join us as blabbermouth Kaplan celebrates his 10K post" is the BEST I can do when searching for the site, a few times it MIGHT appear to find the site, but just the reference text on the browser, the site won't open. Likely I'm doing something wrong, or my router PPP (??) might limit me from the tracert feature from a site like America Online. Possibly nobody can trace the site from AOL ? I don't know. with the tracert feature, How can you tell when the problem hitting a site is the difficulty ? Ping time ? when the interval get's greater than a certain ms ? I was hoping I could do head-to-head tracer's from different sites and perhaps figure if the problem is in Chicago, NJ, NY, in Jians backyard , etc
One other thing Cindy, Bill, Vicki (or whoever knows about this type website), Phill would also be able to trace BACK those of you that stated you were blocked or no ? Because from his perspective NOBODY appears blocked from the site ? Does he do something similar to a tracer on individual members ? or can he only see that they aren't immediately blocked from Karaoke Scene which doesn't take into consideration that some DNS someplace is doing it's own thing preventing access. He couldn't see that ?

I would think he checks to see if a block has been put on an individual ip for reasons of banning

nah Kappy.. no one is "blocked"...
it's like a maze of roads that ISP's are directing traffic..
some ISP's are still directing traffic the "old" route it seems... there are some servers on the net that haven't gotten the new information to route traffic properly..
people who are either.. on an ISP like that.. or using an ISP who's backbone provider hasn't updated their servers to the new path... are stuck on a deadend road..

Just to say that I encounter no problem going to SS or KS for the past week or so.

Yeah Steven he wouldn't trace back to us per se. He (or his web host) would check to see if a particular ip or range of ips were purposely blocked in the configuration.
Seems to me another alternative is a higher level DOS attack that takes out a particular site by causing overload along certain net paths. Some of these can be sophisticated. I recall Steve Gibson describing one he dealt with a few years ago.
As for my previous suggestion regarding the ip address. Here are all the websites being hosted on ip address 64.20.49.194:
1) karaoke-forum.com
2) karaokefest.com
3) karaokescene.com
4) karaokescenemagazine.com
5) singersshowcase.com
6) singersshowcase.net
7) startinggate.karaokescene.com
8 ) thatskaraoke.com
9) themail.karaokescene.net
I might note Foxey that I am unable to get the Apache page unless I use the proxy! I believe this means that somehow the actual ip is blocked and not just the DNS name.

Also if you use proxy www.avoidr.com you don't get porn pix although you do get advertisements.
Surely there are some proxies without ads? If anyone finds one without ads, and with good speed let us all know.

Hmm...let me add on here that many if not most of these proxies are virus laden. The one I was using seemed fine for several hours, but I just got one advertisement page that popped up and was loaded with 15 virus infections caught by my antivirus.
Problem is now I am worrying about the viruses it didn't catch.
Guess it's time to go through about 4 or 5 different antivirus scans / cleans again. I can post the link if the rest of you want to clean up from viruses and spyware.
This thread under Johnboys post has a number of antivirus:
http://pressf1.pcworld.co.nz/showthread.php?t=59106
I use Bitdefender, F-Secure, Trendmicro. Those will also clean. Use on top of whatever antivirus you are running on your computer. You'll be surprised how many these will find that your current solution doesn't clean or find. You may have to play around to find the correct URL for those 3 companies. Some are up to date but others like Bitdefender are old. Just go to www.bitdefender.com and find the free antivirus scan link,

Yep! Scratch that last proxy I gave. Here is a list of many. Many of the top ones seem to work well. I'm currently using HideMyAss which is very speedy, and with very few ads.
Oh, I might add that anyone using a proxy is suspecptible to having their data and passwords, etc intercepted as it is unknown who is hosting the various proxies. You might want to be careful what you type while using one - especially if it is based of out Russia, Nigeria, etc.

But don't dis Nigeria, OK ? Those people are like family to me !!
