Also happens with Seamonkey (the latest version of the old Mozilla suite).

I'm on Firefox, and I'm getting the same thing- and only here on this site.
It's annoying the HELL out of me too;)

I have no idea what is causing that... I t may take me some time to figure out the problem.
I will have to upload and install the dreaded Firefox again to see if I can experience it... It uses so many resources that it drives me crazy!
You do know that less than 3% of the internet uses Firefox.
Only 1.8 % of our users access with FireFox.
Curious, This wasn't happening before with Firefox? It just started recently? I have not made any modifications to the site. Strange - I wonder if Firefox did something?

Not correct. Latest numbers show about 11% in the US. It has reached about 30% in Europe. Individual sites percentage can vary -- I am surprised it is so low here, though. Obviously there are quite a few users who have noticed.... Quote:

No -- I am using the same version of Seamonkey (another Gecko/Mozilla-based browser) as I have for quite some time, and it just started happening.
It looks like it is in this JavaScript to me:
Code: var AMOUNT = 2; // distance to scroll for each time var TIME = 5; // milliseconds var timer = null; function scrollIt(v) { var direction=v?1:-1; var distance=AMOUNT*direction; window.scrollBy(0,distance); } function down(v) { if(timer) { clearInterval(timer); timer=null; } if(v)timer=setInterval("scrollIt(true)",TIME); }
What is calling those functions, I don't know. I do know that if I disable JavaScript, the behavior stops.

I didn't think it was anything from our site -
Java (Sun Systems) doing an update is beyond my control... Maybe Firefox will do an update now that Java has...
I am uncertain where that portion of the javascript is from.
The site especially the forums use a lot of Javascript.
I will certain try to remove the unnecessary scripts if I can detemine which ones are not needed.

Phill, I think something comparable happened once before. I don't recall the cause or remedy however. What I have been noticing is that (similar to a problem about 2 years back) I'm have a problem getting the cursor in post boxes set meaning the cursor will be blinking (sometimes in an erratic manner) yet I have to keep reclicking the cursor with my mouse to be able to enter text... Timing prob, connect speed off ? I don't know, however it's tougher and much slower entering text into posts than usual. Almost a modem type handshaking prob ?? Again I know nothing about this stuff, but there seems to be a compatibility issue someplace.
I think the tech term is "Arrythmia" ? <ducks and runs out>

It doesn't have anything to do with Sun -- they do Java, not Javascript. They are two totally different things, despite the similarity in names. Quote: I am uncertain where that portion of the javascript is from.
That part looks like a mistake to me, since it is above the <DOCTYPE> declaration. Is it possible it got stuck in one of your templates by mistake? Quote: The site especially the forums use a lot of Javascript.

I would say you don't need anything above the <DOCTYPE>. We don't need a "MakeHomePage" function, I don't think.

Strange why would something that has always worked previously - then all of a sudden stop functioning?
I haven't modified any of the scripts or templates lately. Most of the stuff that I do is directly in the database.
I still don't know what caused the error or is causing the error.
I will continue to investigate and see if I can figure it out...
I am submitting this from Firefox and not having the same trouble. Although the fonts are terrible!

Count me in as having the problem. This site sure has a lot of weird stuff going on all the time. I'm not having the problem anywhere else or on other forums. It still seems to me a lot of this type of stuff may be due to hackers getting into a compromised system. I've heard a few people mention they seem to experience viruses, and other odd behavior after being on this site awhile. That hasn't happened to me though that I am aware except when I tried using a proxy to get to this site because of inability to access.
I use both IE and Firefox. Firefox is supposedly renowned to be the superior up and coming browser which many think will eventually replace IE. But of course with Microsofts monopoly position in the OS that will be somewhat difficult. However Firefox is supposed to be a lot more secure. It always seems quicker and less buggy to me also.
Sure I have Java installed. It is required for many applications such as radar, satellite, or stock animations. No way I am going to uninstall it to make this site work properly.
