Someone has just told me they cannot comment in SS because they get a message saying they must first sub a song before being able to comment...if this be so, isnt this getting just a little dictatorial?
What is the philosophy behind a rule like this?

That was actually supposed to be always in effect. Apparantly now with all the other forum gremlins it finally went into effect. It was originally so people couldn't just make comments & run. They would need to be an active member meaning subbing at least one song.

Oh well, This means I will not be able to comment :) It used to be ranking requires a submission, however whatever the rules are naturally is fine with me. If I can get dispensation from the pope (or someone) enabling me to participate it'd be sort've nice, but a few of us that don't sing in the showcase I suppose can live with listening without commenting.

Do you suppose this would be something that might go to the Singers Showcase sub'ing parties as a vote lasting two weeks and let the Showcase participants decide ?

Just wondering.

Personally, the bulk of the comments I get elsewhere are "hit and run", and there is a reason for this. The hits usually come out've the blue because the like and know the song, and can offer the most constructive criticism. Not all hit and run posters have a disruptive agenda.. Some are VERY honest.. For those that wish for honesty sometimes the "hit and run" posters are the closest one asking for a critique can get.. I love have hit and runs... Keeps it exciting..

Look at it this way... Showcase is for the world to hear anyway.. In life how many performers get to pick and choose each member of their audience ? One never knows who will boo ! It's life, how stuff should be in performance.. My thoughts are, is this Singers Showcase, or egg-shell showcase ? There's already listen only option and JFF option, when these are infracted upon the perpetrators are weeded out quickly !!

Do you suppose individuals that have been members of the bboards for a certain time, or have a certain posting quantity under their belt in the Singers Forum, or who have shown actual interest in the Critiquing process as well as have participated in it for several years (no names mentioned of course :o ) might hold exemption to this newly enforced regulation assuming (no names mentioned) are requested to be present by a 5 party anonymous vote and no objections ?

Just wondering, not for myself of course.. It's for somebody that asked me to ask his question

Of course I always have the Singers Forum Critique thread (which I am the sole participant on regarding Critiques:( and directed commentary).

I suppose my bottomline question would be is this a process the singers wish for ? Seems even more conducive to "cliquish" behaviour existing and less likely to make things interesting for singers that don't wish for limited comments. Our names are adjacent our comments. We aren't anonymous. Those with deliberate intent of disrupting the showcase can easily be identified and eliminated. How frequent is this type thing to make this a uniform regulation eliminating even long-standing members on the bboards Singers have come to know ?

Just a thought (or 20)

What happens if you don't have the means to submit a song.
I don't have a mic hooked up to my puter so I can not record
one.

Oh well I guess I'll just have to hear and not be heard.

wolfy I have never actually tested this...but I have heard it told that you can use headphones as a mic when plugged into the mic socket

Might be an interesting exercise, to see if it truely works

Couldn't hurt my singing any. I'm going to give it a try too !

Incidently, I just left a comment in Singers Showcase so everything I said above.. Well, I guess I never needed to say it :)

Sometimes I still get messages telling me that I must have at least one post to read content on this site  Thing is, being so painfully shy, I can't imagine what I'd say
