In my private messges, my outbox shows Outbox (1) and my sent messages does not show the message as sent. When I click on the Outbox, the message shows it was sent and the date and time it was sent. So.. is it really sent or is it hung up for some reason?

If it shows in the outbox then it has not yet been read by the other party. Once read it will be displayed in sent folder.
