jeez... I did toss out a "put down"(?)... but my point was (and I was not an early adopter) that I have had no problems despite all the dire predictions and criticisms.

I don't "act" like the users that "got burned" are the problem here.

It certainly was not meant as a personal attack on any individual or their comments or their experience. It was merely in jest and a response to:

"Bah! Haters! If you are running Vista, let me know and I can help tweak things and make it a more enjoyable experience for you."

I didn't cause your problems anyway... I'm a solutions guy :)

It isn't that Vista can't work. It can. It isn't like it is completely unfit for purpose. It is just a bad operating system which a lot of people got burned on. Microsoft also did something very deceptive, creating a "Vista Ready" campaign which Dell, HP, and others used to sell hardware that in point of fact really couldn't run Vista with its very heavy memory requirements.

"Haters gonna hate"? That certainly implies that there is no reason for the animosity and lack of trust -- that it is simple prejudice and ignorance talking. I assure you that is not the case.

Part of it might be this prejudice -- I hate the expression "haters". 8-)

I was lucky enough to avoid the problems by listening to the "haters" and managing things to avoid buying Vista computers as much as was possible in my business. We made a last-minute XP purchase, and waited for Windows 7, wherever possible.

I purchased a new Vista computer to replace my show computer almost 3 years ago.
It's still literally brand new.
It really only has maybe a total of 3 months on it over that time and only comes out when my main computer isn't available. It was supposed to be my new show computer, but none, and let me emphasize this, NONE of my show or industry related programs would run with it.
I found out I couldn't downgrade to XP because there were no drivers for any of the hardware in the computer (still aren't). And as we all know, the fix (Win7) wasn't due out for at least a couple of years from then. Nice. I literally threw out $400 which I could ill afford to do, and am now at the point where my show computer has been pressed into service for 3 years past its prime. It desperately needs replacing NOW but I am having real difficulty finding anything to replace it with.
And the trust that anything I will buy will perform as required is shot to hell, which makes it even harder to shop for a machine.
Thanks, Microsoft, for the hell that is Vista.

I suggest you give your Vista computer another try after getting all the windows updates. While Vista completely sucked at first, it sucks much less with the fixes and updates (it will never completely stop sucking). Of course there are tweaks that need to be applied....but it's still better than nothing.

I also recommend the following to anyone that wishes to upgrade their operating system (regardless of who makes the operating system) --

TEST your hardware and software before purchasing.

If you can't test it yourself, then contact the manufacturers and ask them if they have tested things out.

@diafel - As for that Vista machine, like earthling suggested, grab all the updates from Windows Update and try things out again. You may be pleasantly surprised. If you don't want to do that, PM me and we will see about getting a copy of Windows 7 Ultimate to you.

If you do decide to run Windows Update on that Vista Machine, I recommend downloading and installing Service Pack 2 as the very first thing. it will save you a LOT of time in the update process to manually install SP2 before running Windows Update.

As always, if anyone has any Microsoft questions, please let me know.
