I love "Party Rock Anthem." It is glorious and happy and even a satire on itself--sense of humor, in other words. I can't see using Autotune constantly to correct singing but I like it for special effects. But now that T-Pain thinks anyone who uses it needs to pay him a royalty, maybe the haters will get some relief. Wonder if he intends to pay Cher.

Hmmm...
Have you ever used reverb?

No.

And for that matter, I think the use of Auto-Tune needs to be limited to making novelty videos where politicians and news anchors sing instead of speaking. I had to beg my wife to let me stop watching Glee because I couldn't stand it, with the Auto-Tune cranked up to 11. When I pointed it out to her, she got tired of it, too. Party Rock is in the house tonight? I think not.

(I'm not normally this much of a grouch--just having a tough day.)

What? you don't adjust the key to your own voice and don't use any reverb at all  I'm glad I don't go to karaoke bars...

I've never used AutoTune.. it's there but I've never tried it... would prolly tick some people off. Always meant to try it sometime though.

Lisah, dare I say that you and I could be "older" ladies? What is funny is I am, at least, and I have come to like some of the new stuff just from paying attention to it as far as what to buy. And I can't sit still for Party Rock Anthem--I leave my post and hit the floor. I even learned the dance but it is too hard on my back and I look pretty silly attempting it--but it got a laugh which I like much more than applause.

I am also the main user of the autotune just to have some fun with it and oddly enough it is the older people who have requested I do those songs again--as in 70 year old people. No hearing aid jokes, please. They just think it is fun and like the livliness of those songs. But then we grew up in the Beatles era where there was alot of electronic experimentation going on so it isn't so shocking to us, I guess.

Yes, I am an 'older' lady! My customers... the 20 somethings, are always surprised when I tell them how old Iam! I'm proud of it, because I like almost all music.. and ya Party Rock, Sexy and I know it... Hotel Room Service is one of my favs too!
I'm gonna have to go in early soon, and try the autotune... :)

LOL...

I sing Party Rock Anthem (no auto-tune) and it never fails to get people dancing.

The other night, a bridal party came out for casual entertainment and right after a group of them sang and danced and headed back to their table, I performed that song. They ALL rushed back to the stage and within 20 seconds they had everyone in the room on their feet with high engery. Love it.

I think when I posted that I was being a bit hasty.

LMFAO should get a pass on the Auto-Tune, because their style is designed to be electronic-sounding. I love both Party Rock Anthem and Sexy and I Know It for what they are musically; that is, they're SUPPOSED to sound like that.

More generally, though, Auto-Tune is like cosmetic surgery. The tendency, when you fix one thing (which might be OK to fix), is to start seeing other things that need "fixing," and pretty soon you're walking around looking like Michael wit' Kanye's money, and all I'm saying is I want Prenup, yeah!

I hope that when I read this the next time I'm not tired, I don't say, "What was I thinking?"

This seems to be the thing that you guy's don't get.
The autotune is not about fixing anything.
It is just a really good tool that when used well...
Nothing like T-pain.
He is a really bad example of it's use.
It does not need to be overkill.

That's just the thing about, when used well it can be an effective effect used on occasion, when used through the ENTIRE song, is a different story!

It should have never been invented.

The original purpose of Auto-Tune was most definitely about "fixing" things. It's a vocal tuner, period. And I don't have a problem with using it as a very minor, occasional shortcut to fix when a singer misses the mark in the studio, as long as it's not detectable (other than by making the recording more pleasant). I have a problem when it's every note, to the point where they sound unnaturally perfect.

I have Wicked game on SC and Dk :)
That's one thing I like about FileMgr and Song List Generator, if I take the disc Id out using Mgr, then export it to generator; Generator will find the dups and drop them from the book. So my books have no duplicates....however, the manu's won't be listed in the book. My experience though, when I did have the manu in there, people would ask me over and over "what does CB mean?" I got tired of explaining. If someone wants to know if I have their preferred brand, they can ask.
My biggest thing now is finding my sc8125! I have two of them and they've disappeared! My boss said he took one and used it for a voice lesson he was giving and can't remember where he put it! GRRRRR
I'm hoping the other original is in the Disc Case we take to the venue. Heartache Tonight is one of my favorites to sing!

I use Compuhost and FastTracks. FastTracks allows me to eliminate the dupes in my books. I can show or not show the manus in my books. If I choose to show them, then in order to not show dupes I have to choose my first choice of manu, 2nd, 3rd, all the way up to 8 (I believe it's 8, haven't set it or looked it it for awhile, no need). Then the books shows the top choice manu that I have. I choose no dupes and I do show the manu in my book. Thinking about dropping the manu listing in my books and saving the ink. Honestly, in my area, rarely does anyone request a specific brand. And sometimes when they will write the manu down on the song slip, I will change it and clear it with them, I've never had an argument or dirty look at all. Not too many purists in my area. I have one that thinks he is but it's more about how loud the vocals are, how loud overall, how much reverb.
FastTracks allows me to see how many songs I have. I'm less than 11,000 non dupes with 18,000 total. It's been awhile now since I have added any dupes. Except last night I unlocked 8 new CB songs at my show. 6 for songs I didn't have and 2 because I wanted the the CB version (both were country).

Once I get my Kiosk going, not so sure I'm going to update my books. My books are updated now (still not counting locked CB songs) but the book or two I will keep then will just be for browsing.

Used to bring my sc8125 to every show. Quit doing it, not worth the risk of being stolen. Someone did sing Desperado last night, I let her know she owed me $200!

I lived my first decade thru the Beatles, I was more about the 70s. I loved both decades but I've adapted thru each decade and I love most all kinds of music. Last week I was doing "Get Low" by Lil Jon and the young crowd was eatin' up, especially when I wasn't using the lyrics monitor.
