I can not say that East Coast Karaoke were the actual manufacturers of Karaoke Kurrents. That information is not clear in the court documents. While the original allegations included the manufacturing of karaoke those claims were eventually dropped and they concentrated more on the distribution.
I believe Lonman's guess is closer to the truth.

The history shows the original defendant, BLUE MOON VENTURES, Inc., a Washington
corporation, d/b/a “LOUDKARAOKE.COM" was being sued for selling unlicensed discs. They then gave up their sources for the discs which added new defendants to the suit. East Coast Karaoke was one of the new defendants added and turned out to be the supplier of the others being sued.

The final resolution to the case was the injuction and order to destroy all infringing material.

Most of the distribtion websites involved have been shut down.

I found some very interesting data while researching this case. In the past year or so, there have been many of these suits filed by Warner/Chappell and their co-plaintiffs. It appears they have ownership rights for many, many songs that have been produced to karaoke without their permission and have been filing suits against anyone who sells the discs that contain any of those songs (not just the manufacturers) as they follow the chain up to the manufacturers.

That's how they eventually got to Chartbuster in this case as a third party defendant:

Most interesting is their latest action on May 21, 2012 as they are now suing Stellar and their distributors:

It's starting to look like the music producers and the karaoke manufacturers are trying to sue karaoke out of existence.

I noticed that they were selling unlicensed SC brand as well (see exhibit 16, 159 songs). I wonder if SC will be going after them too?

Probably not since the offending company has no need to rent the GEM set....

I can say.... East Coast Karaoke is just a B&M Store that sells everything Karaoke related. They are located in Deerpark, NY. They do not make/manufacture any Karaoke music. They just sell it. I know this because I happen to be a regular customer there.

Don't hold your breath waiting on any more Karaoke Kurrents.

On February 3, 2012 the people behind Karaoke Kurrents (EAST COAST KARAOKE &
ENTERTAINMENT CORP.) and many other brands were served a Permanent Injunction and ordered to destroy their unlicensed products.
Here's the order:
http://docs.justia.com/cases/federal/di ... 1328369514
Check out that list of songs and labels!
And those are only the songs owned by the plaintiffs (the same people who basically put Chartbuster out of business with a 1.2 million dollar judgement last August).

Joe's library just became a collector's item.

WHOA. Guess it's gonna be LONG wait for those 2013s.... :(

I guess those sleeping giants ARE beginning to awaken. Hold on to your hats boys and girls- this ride could evenually get bumpy for all of us...

this is why Cue was so harsh Joe. you are the first to tout "check your sources" "do your research" and pointed out many times ebay and Amazon selling whatever they want. did our research and no one but Ebay and Amazon sell it, it was screaming that something is wrong and looking for something to save it as many people like them.
happens to everyone, say one thing, do another and they get called on it.

There was no reason for anyone to be harsh. I did my research and checked my sources, and because I use the original discs, liability for these tracks rests solely on the mfr.. The same applies to Music Maestro, Top Tunes, Back Stage (yeccchhh), or any other OOB mfr. that may or may not have had it's licensing in order. This would also include many Chartbuster Tracks and Sound Choice tracks.

In other words, Karaoke Kurrents is no different than SC or CB, Stellar, or all those other brands.

You folks are taking all of those tracks out your libraries, are ya? Yeah- me either.

Virtually every karaoke producer than virtually every Karaoke Host has in their collection has run into licensing problems.

The worst that I could ever get hit with by a publisher is a cease and desist, and while media shifters may possibly find themselves with more liability, chances are they would probably simply get the same.

So why the rude posts?

I am of the opinion that if Cue truly wanted to know where to find KK discs, he would have done the same as the rest of us - an internet search.

Apparently, my sincere desire to lend a hand was met disingenuous intent. I expect problems when I post in regard to the very heated SC debates, but not when I am attempting to help one who I have thought as a nice guy.

To say that I am surprised and disappointed would not cover it. Kinda puts a damper on the exchange of information with colleagues through good will, you know?

Ah well- no good deed.....

If Warner/Chappell and other producers would get smart they would start doing their own Karaoke. They have and own the original music, all they need to do is add the lyrics.

Big Machine does it for Taylor Swift.

Could be a way for them to make more money for themselves and their artists.
