I want to hire musicians to make my own karaoke audio. These songs will eventually be sold on various online sites and I want to own the rights soley, so I need a contract between me and these musicians.

Is there a website that I can download this legal paperwork from?

Has anyone here experienced dealing with this?

I wouldn’t use that contract if I were you. The best course of action is to hire the services of an entertainment lawyer. This industry is huge & has its share of crooks ready to take advantage of you being new in this game. Seasoned posters from KS can attests to that fact.

Lots of things to consider, i.e. copyright, licenses, permission from composers and/or lyricist, unless it’s your original work, but you want that protected too, the use of graphics for your cd & your jewel cases etc.

If you enter into a contract with someone else, it’s always a good idea to have a lawyer review your document. That way, if something goes wrong or if there are discrepancies in the delivery you deemed wasn’t right, you’ll be able to insist on how you want it completed. I already saw a lawyer and thus gone over all that you have mentioned. He was the one who mentioned that this contract is needed.

Just be one of those hit and run karaoke companies. Put out a couple of dozen discs under a corporate logo. Wait until some publisher finds out about it and files a law suit against you. Then close up shop and disappear. Wait a couple of months and open up a brand new karaoke company and start making new discs all over again. Rinse and repeat. ;c)

A license from Harry Fox should cover your covers, since they are only audio.
You can write in your musicians' contract whatever you want.....like flat rate for their work, no royalties.....or however you want it.......they read it, they sign it or don't get the job.
